Map Idea: Uruguay

I've been thinking about a map for Uruguay for a little while. South America seems to be lacking behind other regions when it comes to maps!

I made a map, which is here: Image

And also an xml file listing all the regions and continents but I haven't got the skills to make the map look professional.

This would be a small map, in the same style as the Luxembourg map, with the capital, Montevideo, starting neutral and giving a small bonus. But I was thinking of doing something extra with Buenos Aires, maybe making it able to bombard the La Plata coastal regions or something.

Personally, I like the smaller maps, and I think this could be an interesting one. Does anyone have any suggestions, or any ideas of how to make the map look more 'CC-like'? :)

This is my first map post, so apologies in advance if this isn't the place to start!

Cheers

As long as it has elements that make it different from other maps such as Luxembourg, I think it'd be good (and Uruguay really deserves this too, since they did get 4th in the World Cup :D ). Also if you can manage to include more territories than Lux, that'd definitely help. And I do like the Buenas Aires idea, as long as you don't make it too much of an advantage to have it (if you know what I mean), since it's not actually a part of Uruguay. Can't help too much on the aesthetics, I'm afraid.

Cheers,

Sully

Well, good start. Next you need to learn some real graphics work. You will absolutely need a graphics software other than mspaint. You'll need a graphics software with layers, such as Photoshop, GIMP, or Paint.net.

You seem to already have a political map of Uruguay there. Try to find a slightly larger one though... that one seems a bit small.

What most mapmakers do is they put the original map on the first layer, then create a second layer on top of it, and on the second layer they trace the features of the map - outlines of the country, bonus areas, etc.

For tutorials on mapmaking check out the tutorials forum.

Pretty good idea, but you'll need to define which territories belong to which bonus first.

I'm all for small maps too - especially if they have unique features (compared to other small maps).

You have a lot of rivers - they make natural impassables (which already differentiates from Lux) and could be part of the gameplay - how about certain river regions connect to Buenos Aires. There are maybe too many impassables with the rivers, so worth having a few bridges (although not as easy to make nice ones as it may seem).

And BA could be a killer neutral (which bombards the coast as you say)?

Everything about this subject lends itself nicely for a CC map. The overall shape is perfect, and the fact that all of the bonus regions are relatively equal in size, is a big plus as well. ;)
