NEW MAP: Roulette

Postby juventino on Sun Feb 04, 2007 2:43 pm

I abondoned my "game of chance" Roulette. Although It would be easy to fix after this map is done. So please for now skip this point of view.

But I still think the roulette table could be a nice map.

Territories

Each number and outside chances is their own territory

Attack

You can attack next to and direct to, EG, not diagonal.

0 can attack every outside-chance. (and i willl not have dubbel-zero, i think 1 zero is enough)

Bonuses
Controll 3 co-working outside chances and get 1 army added on every number you own that works with all these three numbers.

I don't think it would be possible to give out bonuses for a randomly selected territory.

No, I know, it would demand a new coding to this kind of game. And it would perhaps not attract the diehard palyers as it undoubtedly would add a game of chance to CC.

But it could be made diffirent with perhaps a neighbourprint and creating territories on the layout.

sounds interresting but the random bonus for territories is going to work the mod squad to death. so you may want to renonce that idea.

try making the numbers different colors so you can but a bonus on them or you can leave no bonuses and make a new circus maximus.

its your choice!

it was just the coding point of view I thought would be the hardest.
Why would mod squad work extra? It is just a game of chance.

When every player clicks "begin turn" a random number is drawn.

Eg. If 29 comes.

29 gets 3 armies. 3rd dussin, column 35, hgh number, even and black get 1 army each.

Sp it doesnt matter if it is freestyle or seq. And the armies could go to anyone.

But as I said, Perhaps impossible to do this at this point. Will look further on other way playing this kind of map.

I dont want another Circus Maximus!

I just want another type of map and another way of playing and thinking =)

The only way I can see doing it is to create 37 different XML's, each one giving the bonuses appropriate from a different number. Then you'd have to create a program which would randomly choose one of the XML's at the beginning of each turn. This was talked about in the map ideas thread a while back (and sometime more recently in the foundry) but I still can't guarantee it would work the way you want to.

i agree with sully. making o hole new playing mode is thought and at the moment i guess the mod squad and andy are working on the mega upgrade to startfocusing on a new playing mode.

it whould me interresting but your timing is not good.

if you could make the map and the 37 xml(thats a lot of writing) maybe someone will look after it but only after.

But 37 xml pages is not hard. 95% of the pages are the same so just cut and paste. And a randompage drawer at the start of every turn shouldnt be so hard either?

Well. that is now I should prove my point and create it, but I really cant promise anything.

But I still think it would be funny with some changes in gameplay.

I am looking forward to the big update in the future =)

I added a poll to see if there are any interrest.

I could try and make a normal map with roulette looks.
Or Game of chance kind of map

or another option with bonuses depending on what you hold. EG
black, odd, low second dussin, 17 etc..

I was trying to think up a chance based game before, and i found it was nearly impossible to get something that relied on luck and not a grid style map. (on second thought, bingo might be pretty cool, code for each setup being a continent, 5 in a row, four corners, etc

I tried and figure out how to best make bonuses work without destroying the roulette feeling.

SHould there be borders on this map? I could place chips etc. But i think it is good with an open map.

I like the idea juventino - though I have no coding knowledge. I came up with an idea for a roulette map myself the gameplay as follows:

It would be a big map with mostly neutrals akin to Feudal War

The Wheel:
36 territories

The board
108 territories (all numbers plus territories between and on the corners and all the side bets)

Total of 144 territories

Players would start out on the wheel and the entire board would start out neutral (I was thinking just 1 neutral army on each). Each number on the wheel would share a border with the numbers directly next to it on the wheel and it's corresponding number on the board.

And bonuses would pay out exactly as they would in roulette. (For example if you had 30 armies on 7 and 7 came up you would get 35 x 7 armies.) I actually think it would take quite a bit of strategy unless someone got really lucky in round two when the wheel "spun" for the first time - but there would be a lot of ways to win beyond that - and a lot of ways to increase your odds.

How hard is it to program a roulette game? I have no idea - but i thought it would be fun.
