Pyramid of Amenhotep

This is just a rough sketch at this point, and I'm not sure if I'm going to pursue this idea. However, if this gets hugely popular, I just might...

The idea is kinda like Draknor meets Cube 3d. :D

This is just a gameplay sketch, as I'm not going to develop the graphics yet, until I know if this is an idea worth pursuing.

I'm still missing the bonus areas, territory names and such. The idea would be to have bonus areas much like in Draknor, and I could even put in some 1-way doors (not too much though, don't want to seem like a copy-cat).

The stairways connect between different floors of the pyramid.

For graphics, I'm thinking an Egyptian theme, with hieroglyphs, sarcophagi, mummies(?)

I'm also thinking of making an objective, to hold "Amenhotep's Tomb" which would be in the bottom floor somewhere and consist of at least 4 territory squares.

Is this a specific pyramid? I did a google search and nothing came up.

And to be honest, the insides of the pyramids weren't terribly complex. I've been in the medium sized one at Giza and it was basically a ramp down, room and then another room to the right.

There was one further down the Nile I went to, Dashur, and that was a little more maze like. Instead of being at the base, the entrance was up the pyramid some way. Then it ramped down beneath it and had a long tunnel to a big room, which then had a modern staircase made of wood... originally I think it was just left with a 20 foot drop against the stone wall as a counter-theft precaution. Anyway, at the top of the wall is another small tunnel which leads to the actual tomb... which is a 20 foot drop from where the tunnel exits, there was a modern built balcony where you could stand on.

Anyway, I'd love for a pyramid map, I think it could be real cool. But like I said, most of these weren't all that complex. If you want something complex, maybe Luxor should be tried.

Nice idea. How would the bonus structure work? I can see a simple way of having owning an entire floor being worth a bonus amount, but perhaps owning a proportion of the floor (eg 3 on floor 2 = +1) being good too. It would be nice if there were artifacts throughout that constituted bonus as well. So something like 1 ankh + 1 sarcophagus + 1 scarab = +1, or 3 scarabs = +1, etc. You could have maybe 3 or 4 artifact types, and 3 or 4 of each artifact. That would create the same sort of neat complexity that maps like Age of Merchants has

No, it's completely fictional. I just wanted to make a pyramid shaped map, but every map needs a theme... so...

Right, but as this is a fictional pyramid, we don't have to mind about that, do we :)

Hmm. Well, maybe I'll develop this a bit further then.

Haven't thought much about the bonus system yet. The top floor and floor 2 would be one bonus, since they only amount to 5 territories all together. Then Floor 3 could be one, and floors 4 and 5 could each be divided into several bonuses.

Or, I might do something completely different.

Sounds like a nice idea. I'll give some thought to that.

OK, here's another draft:

This has bonus areas and all. It's almost a working draft. I just lack territory names, area names except for the Tomb area. Someone want to help me come up with some cool sounding area names, in the style of Draknor? The staircases are easy, some narrow ones could be named corridors, but the rest should have some cool names. The one at the very top could be observatory...

Hmm... if you're still looking for a theme you could go the route of pyramid construction and label it in layers. The connections were like ramps around the sides, growing progressively higher. It'll change the movement between layers for the draft you currently have, but its a thought.

Well, this map is actually more about the inside of a fictional pyramid... this is more Egyptian mythology, like in popular culture, with all the b-films of mummies and their curses...

The only real historical reference here is, that Amenhotep (AFAIK) really was a pharao in ancient egypt. The rest is pure fiction.

I actually want to make a Draknor style map, but with a 3d-aspect, and a pyramid would fit that scheme just fine, and also provide a necessary theme.'

You get where I'm going with this?
