Imperial Africa

I was thinking and thought that a map of Imperial Africa wouldn't be such a bad map, the basic idea is Africa in the early 20th century when it was being colonized by the European nations. To start the game each player would start with a homeland and Africa would be neutral's, the goal is to run Africa under your homeland.

I think it would be fun to play it, but I am in not way able to make it unless someone is willing to do graphics. So right now I am just suggesting it.

Sounds like cliche "Grab for Africa" Colonialism. I think there could be room for this type of map. It'd be similar to perhaps the Eastern Hemisphere map, though truncated a bit.

I think the Africa idea is great - but a pre-colonisation Africa, with no European colonial powers at all. I think this would be radically different from anything else already done or in the works. I'll try to come up with a basic rough picture if you wish.

Something like this maybe?

There would be 8 to 10 starting points (Bantu, Swahili, Ethiopia, Kongo, Luba, Ashanti, Hausa, Songhai, Mameluks, Maghrib for example); various objectives (cities?) and battles giving out bonuses etc. An African Africa map... now that's a novel idea! lol A bit on the lines of - how would Africa have evolved without European colonialism?

Now that isn't to say that that isn't a good idea, but it isn't like the most origional thing ever. I think the colonial powers one would be easier, since there were better defined boarders and better kept records.

There is a big difference between the two pre-colonial Americas and the Africa one i was talking about. In the Americas, the entire territory is divided between Amerindian nations and you play a classical game of attack and defence. Each player has his/her territories spread out all over the map. There is no relationship between the nations on the map and the player as such.

On the Africa map, there are specific homelands serving as starting points, which expand and confront each other. There is a direct relationship between African homelands and the players' game.

If you look at Colonial Africa's colonies' borders and those of today's African states, you will find a very high degree of similarity - for abvious reasons. All I am saying is that a game based on pre-Colonial Africa would be more interesting because with different borders and connections, the game-play would be significantly different from the existing Africa map or other similar ones in production.

As to originality, I do not claim any divine insight, but the fact remains there is no such map of Africa in existence or in the works at the present time. The fact that we have the two Americas maps based on pre-conquest nations does not take anything away from a pre-European-Colonisation Africa map.

In any case, I just made a suggestion. It's his map and his call.
