I guess the question is whether or not the current work is a derivative of Lone.Prophet's work or is an original expression of the same idea.

I understand the points on both side. I don't think this map should be binned because we can't contact the original creator but I also am sensitive to copyright concerns.

That being said, this is a rendition of a geographically-realistic place. Neither person "created" Golf du St. Laurent. IF we can't get permission from the original mapmaker, I'm sure there's a relatively simple compromise somewhere. For example, inventing a new color scheme and changing the fonts would seem to solve the problems to me. You can't really argue that the bonus structures and gameplay are "copyrighted," per se, since those developed over the course of the thread.

Anyway, that's just my two cents. The easiest way is, of course, getting lone.prophet to say "ok." If that ends in failure, I would hope some simple and quick cosmetic changes would solve the problem.

Who is "we?" You have worked on the map for just over a month. Please don't bitch about too much of your time being put into a map after doing easy work for barely a month.

the.killing.44 if you haven't gotten it by now, I really don't like you, and your opinion means nothing to me. I thought you said a few pages back, that you would never re-visit this thread? Have a problem sticking to our word do we? I have nothing to prove to you. ;)

As per the coypright agreement issue, I've PM'ed LP in the hope he has the option enabled so you get an email when you recieve a PM. I've confirmed with Unit he has no other way to contact LP, so I'm really hoping this works. If I don't get a reply within a week, what exactly do we have to edit to avoid "copyright infringement"? Texture? Font? Maybe a border? I'd personally prefer to change as little as possible because I love the map the way it is right now. Then again, just my opinion...

If LP is uncontactable, then the only option will be to start from scratch with the graphics. There isn't anything wrong with the idea or gameplay, but the graphics will have to be reworked so that it is distinctly different - if it ends up looking similar(ish), then that's not a problem per se - rather it's the fact that LP's image shouldn't be used as a base point for a replica (ie it shouldn't simply be a copy or close imitation)

If this is the case, I'd rather not waste a week waiting for LP to hopefully reply. Perhaps Dolomite could try one more time to get this right? I don't get exactly what needs done... Change everything in the latest graphics update to a black and white image with no terrain effects, then add new, and different textures, colors and fonts? Would that take care of things?

I really don't want Dolomite to have to re-do V3 multiple times, when we can get everything taken care of in one go.

Graphics are in Dolomite's hands now, whatever he does I'm cool with. (As long as the army circles don't move because I really don't want to re-center all those damn things again  )

Until somebody hears back from LP about the graphics, then I think we should treat this map as abandoned. I think it's the only way to resolve the copyright issues of using his imagery.

Sorry to disappoint everybody who put some effort into trying to bring it back to life.

If the map starts over with fresh graphics, then the graphics stamp will have to be rescinded. I've locked the thread for the meantime, so that people can see the thread, rather than it simply vanishing behind the currently closed doors of the main foundry.

In lieu of any feedback in relation to graphics, this project is now marked abandoned.

So I redid the graphics using your map as a starting point and were pretty much ready to go as far as I know. I guess what we need is for you to "ok" what has been done and let the redone map become the official one. I am happy to pass the cartography credit to you or anyone else you want me to.

Wow - NOW I'm curious.

First you lose a file, then you leave for such a long time, now you still have remarks...
No offense, but it's a strange way to handle your brainchild.

how you mean? cant i have critique on some of the parts that dont look nice.

btw before i left i handed the graphics over to another person as far as i know dont know where he is so dont go blame me. (except for losing the file ofcourse)

and the whole problem was not having my consent while i made the original map which was well tweaked by dolomite, so i guess i do have some sort of rights over this

L.P, Just make the suggestions and tell Dolomite what needs edited so we can finally get this done with. All we need is you hand the copyright over or approve the right to use it.

Mr Benn: This map is far from dead, especially now that LP is back. Between Dolomite & LP, this map will get finished. With 3, potentially 4 people pushing to finally get this map finished, it will get there.

LP: I really wish we could take the simple route out of this, considering it's been such a long and bumpy road (to say the least) and have you hand over any rights you have to the graphics to Dolomite so he can wrap things up. No offense intended, but you have been absent for so long, and you did lose all of the files you had of this map, while Dolomite has working files that can be easily edited. For the map's sake, this would be the easiest, and in my opinion, the best option.

Your opinion still matters to us as this was originally yours and Unit's map. However, though, we've gone through the criticism step in the foundry and have come out pretty well off, so not a lot needs changed.

The only thing this map needs to be Quenched (other than the copyright issue) is very minor cosmetic work. As I've said before, everyone has put too much effort into this map for it to just rot away in the recycling bin.

I never noticed that, thanks for pointing them out L.P. I would prefer if Dolomite did the work that way we know we will have a .PSD file to work with afterwords and a consistence flow of artistic work on it. Instead of having Dolomite doing some, and L.P doing others, etc.
