Alright it took me a while (special thanks to Lack's tutorial) but i think i finally have it done!
criticisms?
Also i tried using the XML tester online to see if i got the coordinates correct but it wouldnt work for me, i even tried with firefox. help?

i think those army circles ruin it for you. They do not fit at all with the feel of this map. And do you really even need them in the first place?

Agreed, these army circles may actually make things worse, not better. The logic behind having army circles is 1) its nice to have a solid background against which to read the numbers, and 2) since the numbers have a black outline they are easier to read against a light background. You've created a dark background for dark numbers, which may not increase visibility.

• Sea routes are very light and hard to follow.
• The bonus mini-map gets lost in the center among all of the routes and territories... I didn't see it at first.
• Are the region borders indicative of anything? Because as they are - big, hard to hold, with little pay-off - I might just ignore them in a game on this map and just go with brute force. There's no obvious place to start on this map - just build up and whack people when you can.
• Wikipedia project is confusing - since the web of lines is so dark (more prominent than the attack routes) it seems like they should be important to the map, when really they aren't.
• I want to be able to read the small print, but I can't!
• I assume that the only territories are where you've put army circles? I look at the island on the right (WoW), for example, and I see seven or eight bordered-off lands, but only one circle. Is that called WoW? And does it attack others through Rhunescape? Does it border Second Life? There's a basic problem of territory clarity; where are the lines, what is each territory called. The more I look at this the more I think this isn't just a little thing... especially in the little map, I don't know what to call many territories. I think this is the biggest gameplay issue right now.

And a big picture comment which you don't have to deal with now, but it's something to keep in mind as you move forward... as this is based on a comic, and therefor intended to look low-tech, you have got a serious challenge ahead of you. You clearly want to preserve the hand-drawn look of the original map, which I applaud. The text must have been a great deal of work, andmuch of it looks fantastic - "THE WIKIPEDIA PROJECT" for example is very clean and easy to read, yet the letter variety indicates it's not just a handwriting font. alright as for the army circles they exist because some countries have mountains that would make it harder to see.

i will darken the sea routes thank you for that!

i think u r kinda right about the bonus map part. ill put up a poll asking people what they think about them.

as for the wikipedia project i think i have a solution for them, u can attack through them so i will make them green like the bonus so ppl know they are viable routes. and put a note saying that touching bonus outlines means u can attack across them.

sadly there is nothing i can do about the small print. one thougth is i could just erase it so it doesnt distract ppl in the first place.

k for the WoW problem i think its clarified if i say that touching bonus colors counts as you can attack across them so WoW can attack second life, and WoW/Runescape is one country while Second life/Lineage is another idk how i would clarify that except maybe erase the line between WoW and runescape and the line between Second life and Lineage. i think abother way to clarify it across the board is to erase all names that are not the names of countries.

and for ur last part i see what u mean. i think i will leave the boats as is because i want them to remain constant, but the text i will write by hand them scan into it and the mini map assuming we dont scrap the bonus section as a whole.

ok i wanted to soo what you guys think if i remove bonuses, i didnt do a full redo to remove all the bonus line so u will still see a few. because this is just a test its not on the first page. i also removed small print that was distracting.

You ought to keep a consistent style throughout the whole map. The original comic was a simple pencil drawing, but doing it that way probably wouldn't get you to the Final Forge, unless it's very convincing (see: Doodle Earth). You may want to consider learning an advanced graphics program and starting from scratch, or asking someone else to do it.

If you really want to keep the cartoon style, you should put dotted lines instead of bold red ones, and have pencil-drawn boats. Make the colors much more subdued (there was very little color in the comic). Something like Age Of Merchants, Berlin 1961, or Middle East.

yep. You'll definitely need to provide much higher quality graphics, which probably means re-drawing or doing lots of edits on the original image, to make it more usable and mapmaker-friendly.

I think you could probably reorganize things quite a bit. The islands are a pretty big mess, just because they weren't drawn to work for a CC map. They would look much better and be easier to use if you made a few small changes. combining smaller islands, moving a few others, etc, just to make the islands on the map more organized and logical.

i took the time and decided to remove all excess islands that werent a country that could be taken over, do u think that would clean it up enough?

UPDATE:
So what i have done is i made the routes and the ships (army circles for the seas) more cartoony and i removed a BUNCH of islands including a lot of the wikipedia islands. i also removed the last remaining stain of bonus borders from the map.

there are no more continents, they have been removed because they lack any real aide and they ruin the look of the map.

i split myspace into two because i thought it was too big to be one country should i combine them?

first off thx for commenting, this map seems to have been dieing, but the most updated map has no bonuses, because they were hard to get, lacked any real gameplay advantage, and ruined the look of the map.
