Just running this by everyone here. Do you think this would make a good map?

Just came up with it, really. I'm very interested in trying my hand at making maps, and this is the first idea that popped into my head. I think I'm going to try to flesh out a few ideas, then maybe I'll come back here.

And put a neutral, unconquerable territory labeled "atheists" in the middle.

Dante's Divina Commedia

Postby Friskies on Fri Aug 08, 2008 4:32 pm

Did anyone try a map with this universe ? I mean, show one's artistic skills by drawing the 9 circles of Hell. It takes about 9 continents with usual landscapes (meadow, lake of mud, mountains, river, iced lake, forest, desert...)
There should not be many territories on such a beautiful map. I am not good at drawing and I just suggest this idea.

About the game, something classical for bonus and reinforcements, maybe territories losing armies. I don't know all the possibilities in there, but I could devise something a bit less usual. Neutral killers on some gate territories for instance.

I'm thinking it would just be a bunch of concentric circles:

The thing is though, after you go to the lower levels of Hell, it's split into more bolgias so the territories in the lower levels would be more.

I think it would be really cool if there was a Divine Comedy trilogy with Purgatorio, Paradiso, and Inferno, but I'm not sure how much time someone would be willing to put in it.

i really like x's idea of making this a trilogy, sort of in the style of aor. of ocurse, the problem, as she said, is that the layers of hell are generally percieved to be cocentrics circles. you'd have to think of some way to divide it up and make territories. i'm not sure how familiar you actually are the the commedia, but it might be doable if you include some territories as areas and characters' domains. i myself havn't read them in several years so i've forgotten much of it but i believe he encounters several demons and walks through several named cities and regions, etc..

From the start, I didn't want to use the character's or demons, just the areas. The concentric circles are a bit hard for a playable map, you're right. That's why I'd rather have a map with landscape on it, not like 8 thoughts. In addition to that, the story is a bit too linear for a good conquering game. But I'm not the best with Divina Commedia itself, so it seems. If you have another point of view that is more accurate about the whole masterpiece and still make a playable map, please tell us.

something more similar to this, perhaps? name territories after the sins they're characterized by (lust, gluttony, murder, etc), also include jerusalem outside, the city of dis, the minotaur's labyrinth, land of the giants, etc. barriers can be rivers (styx), walls, mountain ranges, etc.

Heaven Vs. Hell Map

Postby jim save on Fri Jan 30, 2009 8:21 pm

I Have another idea for a map since my atom map is not geting much praise: How about a Heaven Vs. Hell map. It can even be modeled on Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, which talks about the nine circle's of hell, The Terraces of Purgatory and The Spheres of Heaven. Any Takers?

I recommend empathizing the difference between them...

Find someone sort of photo editing software and get a few images and combine them to create your map...

then upload it to photobucket or imageshack and post it then ask a mod to move this thread to drafts...

9 levels of hell, from Dante's A divine Comedy.

Postby neutronstar on Mon Feb 09, 2009 1:36 am

9 Levels of hell, and heaven at the top as the tenth "floor" of mount Purgatory. And maybe including the 9 Spheres of heaven.

On each level you can have different territories containing the names of all types of sinners that go to such level.

maybe you could include the levels of heaven and purgatory from the same series, to give you a greater variety? you could even have a bonus for holding all of heaven or hell. I don't know how you'd connect each level to the others, but I'm picturing a layout somewhat like 8 thoughts (albeit less organized / symetrical) for each level. Haven't read the books (yet) so I don't know how well that fits them, just I personally really like maps with lots of territories, and I think the idea of having a bunch of smaller bonuses add up to a larger bonus area. but maybe that's just me....

the winners of consecutive games could be automatically advanced to the next level.......etc...etc.......until the ninth level when the ultimate winner conquers hell and becomes "THE DEVIL", who would be the automatic defender of the ninth level and of hell itself til there is a new winner who would become "THE DEVIL" and be the new defender............and so on and so fourth.........

Ehm.. No. It couldn't. Not in map coding, at least. You'd have to organize a tournament for that AND have maps for each level of hell.

Dante's Inferno and the 9 Rings of Hell

Postby MNDuke on Sun Sep 13, 2009 3:48 pm

Alright, so my NFL map idea was a no go, and I am really looking to contribute, so how about a map based off of Dante's Divine Comedy and and the 9 rings of hell. I think it might make a very cool map. Maybe something based off of this image: http://everythingyouknowaboutenglishisw ... shally.gif

I am interested to hear feedback on this.

I think it would lean to heavily towards the 8 Thoughts map. If you could come up with something unique for it ... it could be okay ;)
