not really. actually the gameplay will allow you to take your turn and do all your moves in 2 minutes even if you have 200 terits.

Hopefully this would be a map where games last a long time :) I enjoy those games....

Considering your AoM map is extremely pushing the limits of map size, I don't see how a 300 territory map would be feasible. It is recommended that height does not exceed 600px, but there is obviously a little room creativity.

AoM is going to be our tallest map as far as I know and I don't think myself or Andy would want to see maps get any bigger than that. Personally I would discourage it unless it's absolutely necessary. Do you think you can sqeeze 300 territories into a map no higher than 800px?

i personally would be willing to give up a bit more screen space if i was getting the opertunite to have a 300+ terr map.

Also i think i read this here but it maps could be opened in a new window then that opens up the visability a little

i could try but my guess is it's impossible :(

Nah - new windows are bad... they always loose focus when you need them not too.

300 might be a little too much, but I would enjoy a larger map for sure, another one with the size of world 2.1 would be awesome

A misunderstanding that made me want to do it

Postby Solus on Tue Jun 19, 2007 6:53 am

I thought this was an idea for a map based on the movie 300. Then I thought maybe everybody made the same mistake. Turns out it doesn't matter because I think its a great idea. Also I would love to see this map in progress.

I have reservations against a 300 map. I thought i would not, but upon reading the thread there is a large hesitation to join a 300 terit map. I love 2.0.. but sometimes its just too damm big, and you are talking about an even bigger map.. i stick to 150, but thats only because i think it should not be larger.. anyways, good luck

it appears the 300 terit map has enough support (at least according to the poll) but the main problem remains the size of the image. i'm still pondering on the layout. keyogi said i should do something within 800 pixels and it's really tought if not impossible to fit that many terits

the trojan war map is 1500 px high.

i say go for it, as long as you make the map that only has to scroll in one direction. so it would be a long or tall map. i prefer tall as it doesnt mess with the rest of the website.

and as always if people hate scrolling so much, then DONT PLAY IT!

Trojan war is too big anyway. It'll never get through the foundry that size.

DiM, I dont think its a good idea to ignore the size recomendations on purpose. You've been told what size is maximum. Work with it or reduce the numbers.

there is no maximum size. what they haev is a recommendation. i wish you would stop judgeing till we see a working image. If the community is willing to swing with a 800+ px image theyn its all good.
What do you know about map making, bitch?

so basically he said i should try to squeeze into 800 px. :(

if i squeeze into 800px i'll have nothing but army circles and connectors. plus the map has a different gameplay concept and yet again i'll need an extensive legend.

How hard would it be for the administrator to add a feature to have a scrollbar surrounding the image in the middle of the screen for very large maps?

before you vote please take into consideration the folowing pros and cons:

advantages:

1. perfect for build-up games
2. perfect for those that want long lasting games
3. perfect for huge battle royale.
4. good simulation of a big scale war.

disadvantages:
1. map size. 300 terits need a lot of space so the map size will be quite scary
2. impossible to play RT games
3. not good for non premium members as they will keep one slot blocked for a long time.

the project consists of 300 terits but this number can be lowered to 200 or 180.
in the poll you have several options so please vote the number of terits you consider the map should have.

PS: note that i haven't said anything about the theme of the map. it is not important at this moment because i haven't made a decent image to present and now some xml features are not available so currently the map xml is impossible. after i gather a decent number of votes and i hear people's opinions i will start working on the graphics part and by the time i finish hopefuly lack will implement more features.

Con #2 isn't really a con. Sure, I like playing RT games, but really, rt games are made fast and usually someone will just pick a place. I don't think a map has to be made with RT in mind.

I think I remember something Lack said. ;)

most people that advertise also post which map they are doing but even if they dont when others go to join they would see it and then have the choice of joining or not. perhaps another mod needs to be an rt option in the start game. kinda like the speed game but fer non premium members. just an idea...

plus a speed game might be a little too short of a time period for a rt on a map that could be this big.
