So...things to do (taking suggestions in mind):

1. Use map in title - design more interesting title
2. Make trees more varied and reaslitic patterns
3. Add general touches to make look more professional
4. Work on compass

What else?

Please be specific.

certain stuff is just a little sloppy. The mess of names and borders in the south east is the first thing I see. and the color scheme doesn't agree with me, but I'm like darker maps better, Europe for instance so that's just a personal thing

try adding thing step by step,
first take the basic map, u have countries here and try to color them to a feeling that u think is best for the map.

than u go on with adding mountains and such.

if u trow everything in at once it very diffucult to critique. so i suggest first do the coloring than add better mountain.

U however dont need to listen to me :p

Well that covers it, i would like to play this map only making it appealing goes in steps

In this version:

+ New graphic effects
+ Smoother Trading Post Symbols
+ More Readable Continents
+ Reduce number of territories in south east to reduce congestion
+ Changed continent values
+ Changed ocean script
+ Changed compass
+ More interesting and realistic trees/jungle

What do I need to do? How can I make improvements?

I want to know what Andy thinks of the map.

It is getting better, we need his comment I think.

I hope that both South-Africa maps can get to the finals

Well - what specifically can I do to improve this map? How can I get it ready to play? Does it look interesting?

Please don't use South Africa's new flag if you want to do a Boer War map.
The Orange Freestate and Transvaal had their own flags.

Are you making a map of the Boer War, or Southern Africa?
The Boer War didn't actually take place over to the borders to the neighbouring countries to the North, I believe.
Here's a nice resource for you:

Maybe you could bring in the islands of St. Helena and Ceylon, where the concentration camps were based?

I think that the ocean is to dark, also the scroll shouldn't be there, it doesn't look right(to me) I think you should have it on something like what you have the "south africa" title on maybe, that might look better..everything else looks good..of course this is only what I think, leave it or take it!
standing on the front lines, stand with me, or move out of my way!

Well - it's very loosely based on the Boer War. The general territorial layout reflects the Boer War, but the actual map is based on about 3 dozen maps from the period. It is supposed to be of historical South Africa, though obviously to make it player-friendly, territorial lines had to be changed and shifted.

And I don't want to use the Transvaal or Orange Republic flags because those are only part of the total territory on the map (a small part).

I understand that.

One thing you MUST change is not use our new flag for a map based on that era.

Straighten up some more of those names, like the southeast islands.

Maybe move some titles around, like Noordwes to the top of that territory.

Go with one style of mountains, instead of two?

I'll work on the titles - I agree there. As for the mountains - some are supposed to be sand mountains or sand dunes.
