Native Americas - Classic Gameplay?

Postby James Vazquez on Thu Oct 16, 2008 9:49 am

I have no skills and no programs to develope a map.

Ideas and opinions i got

So here is one for a revamp of classic... It's a Native americas map. Indian both north american and south american tribes are zones .

formerly oceania is the caribean.
Formerly asia in irqouis nation. located in on the east coast
formely europe are the souix nations located in the mid west
formely na are the pacific tribes located in the west coast
formely SA are the aztec mayan incas etc. located in the south west and SA

i have attack routes worked out to emmulate the current gameplay if its hard to picture it.

all game play and # of attack routes are same boundries including missisippi, rocky mountains etc..

not sure you all can picture this but i'm sure map makers are able to get a picture in their head at least. I'd be happy to consult and research any info needed to expedite the process.

So what ya saw ?

james

edit: i guess i was unclear the map itself would be of north and south america only no other conteients. Thus avoiding the LOOK of the old map entirely. but there could be other editions for europe and asia it could be a series of pre-middle age civilizations.
Focusing on one continent at a time.

Interesting idea, maybe this could be one of the "skins" they're talking about over in Discussion.

James I love the idea of a "native" map based on the classic
I would also be happy to provide input from a historical perspective for NA & SA....think of the natives throughout the world and you got the map...In Europe the Germanic and Teutonic tribes would be awesome...the Celts and the Brits in England...wow yes your idea is brilliant!!! <mod edit>

The idea is a good one.
I'm not too sure what is going on in the grand scheme of things, but lets keep discussion on topic here please ;-)

Well, since we seem to have two versions of this map up already, I think I may as well make a draft of this. I know it won't necessarily be quenched, but whatever.

Yeah cool idea. I know Tisha was talking about doing an "indigenous peoples" map a while ago (though I think that was restricted to North America, but still...).

Sort of, but the game-play (i.e. attack routes, obstacles, terr., bonuses...) would be the same as Classic.

You hit it on the head there, InkLOsed. I think it's worth talking about alternatives (if nothing else it is therapeutic :D ) so long as we all recognize that we absolutely don't know what the CC policy on this will be. While personally I like the idea of having more 'classic' play maps, I'd hate to see anybody throw time into a project that will be vetoed from above.

But the native Americas idea is an interesting one... the trouble is always in fashioning the cross-screen connection. And how would the old Africa fit in, because it seems to be left out? The map idea is sound and has been tinkered with before, though it may make more sense if it doesn't have to fit the classic play.

there are already two versions of classic, so why not more? and if that wont work, then don't make it like classic, but keep the theme. I think it's a fun idea.

I've already figured out how the Kamchatka-Alaska connection would work - it'd be a trade-route along Canada. Since there was a fur trade along roughly that path, I think it'd even be historically justified.

Africa would be in the South. I see it all in my mind, it fits perfectly.

EDIT: Here's what I'm thinking of:

Fascinating the way Florida corresponds to Siam. I figured there'd be more of Canada/South America in play, but the way it's depicted in the diagram is not bad.

We need an island off "Iroquois" to represent Japan.

island of iroqois is long island. i made a terr.-zone version in paint but the above one is much nicer.

the long island can connect to two terr just like in the oriq its just a canoe ride away :)

the connection between north west and iroqois could be called spirit path or something along those lines. barriers could be treatys or rockies and rivers mississippi river and the rio grande and the SW desert.

I was thinking the same thing in terms of Long Island.

Funny, I was looking at this map again, and it's interesting how you can make rather passable mountains with just a hard chiseled bevel.

Wow. That's pretty good, I think you could move to the next stage. Move this to the drafting room...or even the foundry!

In keeping with the game-play of "old Classic", I don't think we'd want to exceed 42 territories. Adding more land mass would complicate the precise configuration already achieved by Ink.
