You ought to just skip this and go straight to making the sequel to US Senate... no, not house of representitive, but the supreme court.

Supreme Court would be neat to be sure, though I feel like there's a more international-friendly concept out there that you could do.

Thanks for the suggestion of a sequel to the US Senate, I have updated my first post with something better than my original idea - what do you think? Let me know your thoughts on that.

The image is an amendment of an 1843 line illustration of the trial of McNaughten at the Old Bailey.

I have been playing with gimp.

Some more feedback would be good - as fun as this is, it may be more fun to me than anyone else!!

Well on that rousing level of support, I recommend we go straight into xml and release as soon as possible!!

Incidentally, a little more on gameplay ... it could be played by 2 to 8 players. If 2 then 4 lawyers each? If 3 then 2 each and 2 not used. If 4 then 2 each. If five then 1 each and 3 spares. If 6 then 1 each and 2 spares. If 7 then (you got it) 1 spare. And 8 has ... drum roll ... no spares. Normal, escalating or no spoils would all work. Nuclear would work. Hardest would be terminator or assassin ... but still possible!!

With a courtroom map, you could have holding the whole jury a victory condition, and make each juror only one-way attackable. You can have several pieces of evidence, each of which are attackable by the judge and both lawyers, and the evidence attacks the jurors (lawyer argues the evidence, convinces the jurors)

Thanks Dibbun, but I am a little bit confused:

1. Are you advocating different graphics? ... something like ...

2. Alternatively do you think that there should be 12 pieces of evidence which are colour linked to jury members?

3. Alternatively can any piece of evidence attack any jury member?

4. Something else?

Hmmm ... no response from Dibbun ... methinks maybe he has other things to do!

Anybody else have comments on this suggestion for a map?

Funny how you bring something to the world and it is your baby ... even if everybody else recoils in horror!

Well, to be honest this map doesn't really invoke a "wow" effect in me.

It's a collection of harlequinesque geometric shapes, who are apparently in court?

Why do geometric shapes need to go in court anyway... they only obey the laws of mathematics, and those are absolute. (no pun intended)

Omg sorry I forgot about this thread! :(

Well, what about this.

Each juror is one way attackable by two different territories. These territories may either be pieces of evidence, the judge, the witness, the courtroom clock (they want to leave lol) or certain members of the audience, such as a menacing looking guy and a guy with a suitcase with money hanging out.

Idk this is just an idea, you're the genius! :)

Hehe ... nice one Dibbun. No disrespect meant (not that you seemed to wilt any).

Love the idea about the clock. I agree graphics and gameplay would be far more interesting if the members of the public and jury had character to them, lots of drawing to do! The image I selected was to be evocative of a mood and idea but I agree it would mean more if I added stuff into it (ie did it myself and from scratch).

Will now go back and read that book about how to draw!

I agree, the geometric idea is plain awful ... I won't be pursuing that - but I will be pursuing my original idea - I just need to do a heck of a lot more work!

It would appear that development of this map has stalled. If the mapmaker wants to continue with the map, then one of the Foundry Moderators will be able to help put the thread back into the Foundry system, after an update has been made. ;-)

A quick prod.

As of this post there are 512 hits on this map. I think that alone indicates I should not abandon the idea.

Reading back at the (very short) log, I note that few were keen on a map based on an old English Court and a couple of you were interested in a US Supreme Court map.

I am thinking of (now that I have a vague idea how to run a graphics programme) spending time preparing such a thing.

My thoughts are currently on gameplay though.

I will post again when I get my act together but thoughts of rebuke or encouragement now would be nice!

Well, it's hard to say without some kind of coherent gameplay plan.

Of that I am convinced ... but it is proving a devil of a thing to make sense of lol! What may seem to make sense at first blush can prove doddery at best in practice. Don't worry, I will either post a gameplay suggestion or abandon the idea if I can't think of anything appropriate!
