Pacific Ocean/ Polynesia

Postby lutzj on Thu May 26, 2011 5:34 pm

I haven't found any maps or drafts focused on Oceania and/or the surrounding countries. Has this been attempted? It seems like a big archipelago would be great for fine-tuning gameplay with chokes etc, and the size is incredibly scalable; anything from 30 to 120 terits could work. I'v never done anything resembling graphics for a map before, but I drew up an idea for continents in paint:

Hmm, forums search for "Pacific" didn't catch that. Is there sufficient niche for a map that captures more of the Pacific Islands/Rim?

There can be. You'd probably have a better shot of taking this map through if you added some unique gameplay element(s) that aren't in the current Oceania map.

A map themed around say ancient Polynesian explorers, boating from island to island in combat in their dugout boats and such, could be kind of interesting.

I thought about autodeploy starting spots in East Asia (a bit like the homelands on the New World map), but it'd be hard to get people to move east instead of just taking each other's spawns in the first 2 turns.

Maybe surround the spawning points with very heavy killer neutrals on the mainland (simulating mainland peoples as an added bonus) and let them 1-way attack into Indonesia, Japan, and and the Philippines, and then Australia/Micronesia/Polynesia. Once you're way out into the Pacific, you begin suffering army decay, and after getting through a hefty killer neutral on Hawaii you can attack California to win the game. Sort of like Desert Oasis but more linear.

Linear isn't good. Conquer club isn't supposed to be a linear game. But I am intrigued by the idea of just having one-way attack from the mainland spawns that are by big killer neutrals. Players would try to gain troops around the main map until they have enough to break through the neutrals and take out their rivals...

Sounds like colonization!
