You know... starting with a map like this is a hard way to start mapmaking. You obviously don't have much experience with using a graphics software, which is fine, we all start somewhere. But the thing is, it's much easier to make a geographical map for your first map, because there's lots of tutorials and help available for those. With more "special" type maps, there's really no standard way to go about it, which means you have to depend on your skills a lot more, and you need to figure out things on your own a lot more.

What I recommend is that you put this project on hold for now, and try making a geographical map. I'm writing a series of extensive step-by-step tutorials for GIMP on geographical maps, 2 parts of the series are already done. You could pick a country, or a city, or something in between... either modern or historical. You'd have a much easier time creating your first map, and you'd learn all the necessary graphics work in the process. Then you could later return to this project and finish it with all the mad skillz you'd have acquired.

I understand what your saying. I do. I'm building it like a geographical map. I might do that and figure out this one as I go along.

This doesn't show us any inkling of what the game play will be like. What are you looking to do with a map like that?

This is coming along nicely. Frog's right, though... It doesn't indicate much about gameplay. Need to divide it up into regions. :P

Here's a suggestion:

I think that was 36 regions. Then you would have ten players on the ice, two referees, two benches, perhaps a crowd and the flags. :D It'd be pretty swell.
