Would like to suggest a northern ireland map
im not good at explanations but i'll give it a go; I saw in the news recently something about council borders being redrawn and they showed an image of what will change etc and i couldnt help but thinking "that would be great for risk"...sad i know lol
could someone have a look and see what they can do with this image (its similar to what the news had)

as you can see the only differences on both are ROI and the water have changed colour -i wanted to change continent colours but got distracted and now im tired so couldnt be bothred to do it (will do for next update tho). Also changed the territory name font and shortened some so that theyre easier to read

In the version with mountains and airports ive changed the airport logo and the describer at the bottom
also -just noticed now- i forgot to get rid of the lines at the bottom for the version without mountains+airports. Next update i will delete those and move the Territory name 'translation' at the bottom right cornor to the bottom left cornor (that is if you think the without version is better)

will also add whatever y'all suggest

And it would finish off the UK/Ireland set of maps nicely .. ohh i can just see a teams tourney here.

Ideas
Belfast is like Luxembourg City on the Luxembourg map, start as netural

Map has 25 territories so would work for 8 player games inc Belfast rule.

i would do it myself but 1)im lazy and 2)im rubbish at computers and art so will screw it up somehow

i will gladly help in gameplay ideas etc if someone decides to try this one out

i was brought up as a nationalist so the last part wasnt needed
but i think that your right about the struggles being in the map would definately add to the map

Ok, only thing unexplained on the map is the stars. I will add a note at the bottom sayng that they are the terts that the continent is named after, i may add a bonus for holding a certain amount of these, but that depends on what you lot say

also, Belfast will start neutrel and airports are currently part of the tert theyre on (eg derry can attack fermanagh and antrim directly without having to attack an airport tert first ) please say whether you'd prefer them as part of a tert or as separate terts

Nice to see this map in the making.

Graphics wise- The large expanses of flat colours, especially the non-playable are somehow not very appealing, you might want to find a theme to make your graphics a little more interesting and try out some textures or other colour techniques.

Gameplay-At the moment, your bonuses are quite a way off. All your main continents should be worth about 4 (with the occasional 3) apart from Belfast which should be made a 1 and/or a neutral start position. This could be a good thing as very few current maps have all their continents of about the same size without being symetrical. The airports could well turn out to be unnecicary depending on how the gameplay develops. I know the mountains are in real positions, but at the moment they're only breaking up continents, not protecting them for each other.


Something else had been bothering me and I just realised what it was. At the moment, the dead terretory in the republic is a more vivid colour than the rest of the map. Really you want a nice neutral colour for that.

i added airports as i thought it could make moving around a little easier, but you may be right in them being unnecessary

You should change the Legend for the airports.

"All airports can attack eachother." is easier to understand than what currently is.

Better, but at the moment I think it should work out:

Omagh:4 territs, 4 border territs-4
Derry:4 territs, 4 border territs-4
Moyle:5 territs, 4 border territs-4
Antrim:4 territs, 4 border territs-4
Belfast - neutral:1 territ, 1 border territ-1
Down:4 territs, 3 border territs (but with the possibility of replacing one of those with Belfast for a +1 or letting the neutral in belfast do the defending)-2
Armagh:4 territs, 4 border territs-4

3mp3r0r, would you be able to leave the links to previous versions so we can see what's changed?

Without being able to see the previous version, this one feels like a retrograde step - I liked the texture on the sea (although the contrast was too great). The borders look a bit pixelly, and the airport/mountains will probably have to be updated at some point too

As for gameplay, that should be your primary concern - I'll have a look at it later when I'm not so pressed for time.

mr.b, ive left the update from the 2nd up. Sorry if it doesnt stand out but its at the bottom of the origional post as " [Update 2/11/08] ". i'll be leaving the old updates like this each time
if you want me to change it to:

also, there is a post with the img shown just above your first pst on this topic

i'll reintroduce the wave pattern for you, but use a blue with an easier contrast. And i must apologise for my borders as im using the slightly worse program right now; Charles did the original draft and his program is more like photoshop than my cheap copy which uses some rubbish line-drawing
I will try making the mtns and airports look better but really im waiting for the people's comments on whether the "with" map is better or worse than the "without" map

It would appear that development of this map has stalled. If the mapmaker wants to continue with the map, then one of the CAs will be able to help put the thread back into the Foundry system, after an update has been made.
