Thinking about suggestions for how to handle "trap" territories that border and can bombard nothing, such as the Baathist & US loyalty squares on the Battle for Iraq map, I remembered a certain parody near-future world that I'm fairly certain is free of copyright restrictions...
The basic map is one wide open paved field, being roamed by SUVs. Very little that is not some sort of drivable surface (such as asphalt or concrete) appears on the map (aside from area labels and army circles, of course). Most territories connect to most other territories, though there would be some terrain to break things up and protect access to Pit Station spaces. Pit Station spaces each have an adjacent Pit that they can attack - possibly, 3 or 4 Pit Stations per Pit. Pits can not attack back, nor can they bombard - anything consigned to a Pit, stays in the Pit until it dies.
Thing is, Pits are also the only source of bonuses (with the possible exception of territory bonuses). They also start off neutral.
Comments? I don't believe I'm a good enough artist to draw this to Conquer Club standards; this is more of a thought experiment at this point.
