Cube/Polygon Map [idea]

Postby chipv on Mon Jun 16, 2008 7:17 pm

Well, just really inital thoughts.

Take a cube as an example (like the Rubik's cube 3x3 grid each side so 45 territories in all).
You get several views (different images) of it on a button click to show you each face or rotation.
Bonuses for full face, corners, lines.

Could have objectives of securing corners, middle lines, side, special shapes (like an L shape), something like that.
Only problem is that it's symmetrical so can think of some other polygon if anyone thinks that there is any mileage.

I would like to see a map with different orientation to give it a less 2D feel, so you would really have to think out
what adjoins what (like in this case , the edges adjoin each other).

Anyway just throw this one up and see, need to investigate if it's possible to have multiple maps inside one map
(6 maps for each side combined into one so you can view them).

I'm not sure what's happening with that map, so you might want to keep going with yours

I've never been too enthused about a polygon map...it doesn't seem like something I'd want to conquer, you know? But perhaps that is just because so far none of the attempts have hooked me with a reason why...

Had a feeling it was already done. Looks pretty good, not quite what I wanted -
if we could have the illusion of rotating a cube (with multiple connecting map images activated by a rotate button),
then I think that makes for better gameplay. Also similar mechanics could yield some fiendish maps.
I'm still reading up on how far away the current mechanics are from supporting this, but someone could help by pointing at
the right thread.

you could make it scrambled, instead of the sides being all one color

The tough thing will be getting past the pure abstractness that a cube is. If you could identify a theme that fits a cube I think that would help. Just a thought.
