Quentin Tarantino Mafia (16/16) Taking Reserves

PostPosted: Sat Oct 02, 2010 4:57 pm

I'll be running a Quentin Tarantino Mafia with either 12 or 16 players. The roles will only come from movies he's written and directed. They are...

Resevoir Dogs
Pulp Fiction
Jackie Brown
Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2
Death Proof
Inglourious Basterds

One of the problems with mafia games is the perceived weakness of fakeclaims. Due to the often complex nature of the characters in Tarantino films, I was able to create what I feel are strong fakeclaims and nameclaims. As such, the idea of mass claiming should be neutralized this game. I recommend some familiarity with these films to make things more fun and also for when roleclaiming does occur.

Hi Lala, how are you?

Fircoal, just because I decided to play mafia it doesn't mean that I am going to inflict one of your i-just-had-an-idea-it-probably-won't-work-but-who-cares-since-I-won't-waste-MY-time-and-the-players-are-my-butt-monkeys game on myself. :P

Same here. I watched all the others many times, except Inglorious Bastards.

I spent all of 2009 waiting for the Bastards and Sherlock Holmes, all I got in the end was a) a movie that can't compare to 'Kelly's Heroes' (best 'light' war movie ever) or 'Dirty Dozen' and b) a Sherlock Holmes movie in which the main character is inspired by House MD who has been inspired by Sherlock Holmes #-o . It was like that moronic comic based on a ok film based on great comic ](*,) (aka Constantine comic. At least they had not come up with an idea to make a comic based on the 'V for Vendetta' movie, cause then I would really need to kill someone  ).

There's one movie I never got to watch but I defenitely want to watch. I only saw a bit of the end of it on some commercial movie TV channel. Kinda liked it. There must be sweet role names in it for a Mafia game... Someone should try and make one.

Sweet, we're dealing with the ultimate comic book geek (that is a compliment, seriously :))
A good friend of mine, who is as big a geek as you seem to be, knows all of the Tarantino movies by heart.

I have watched Quentin Tarantino with him and another friend dozens of times. Even though we were always stoned, and I never remembered anything, I will join, and try to compete with the above

Actually, I think I might use this as an excuse to watch all of them sober. :)

So I'm in too :)

I didn't actually care to watch Inglorious Bastards...until I heard it was a Tarintino film. I'm glad I watched it now, it's a superb movie.

I'm probably gonna Netflix soon.

By itself, it's not a bad movie. If you had no contact with the Hellblazer comics, you'll enjoy it and, maybe, decide to look up the comics (the first issues look really old fashioned, but the story is worth it.) However, two indisputable facts remain:

a) people who did the casting for the movie have been doing massive amounts of drugs (probably with the whoever wrote the script). Keanu Reeves plays a blond Liverpool punker whose name rimes with 'fine' except his hear is black, his accent is yank and he pronounces his name so that it rimes with 'thin'. Shia LaBeouf plays a big rugged taxi driver in late thirties (I think that's the universes way of try to balance 'Interview with the vampire' where Antonio Banderas plays a 16 year old boy with an angelic face). They even have the wrong Satan! (since, as every geek knows, Lucifer has abdicated his throne by the time when 'Dangerous Habits' start :ugeek: )

b) The comic based on the movie can only be useful when you run out of toilet paper.

Thank you. The only one I ever came close to knowing by heart is 'Kill Bill vol 1'. That actually saved my sanity on one 5 hour family trip.

It's not a bad movie, but after all that hype I expected something fantastic. It has it's moments (Brad Pitt speaking Italian  ), but IMO there are better Tarantino movies and better war movies.
