is today the last day for day 1 or sunday?

on the Swifte case; i got to say it s quite fishy, he said he wouldn t throw away his vote, then I shaked him a little cause we were never getting anything about his possible role and he comes out suddenly so convinced about BG...I m waiting for his final argumentation cause he is too close from an elimination now..

I hadn't in fact 'changed my mind'... as you mentioned I really hadn't stated many opinions to that point, but after taking it all in I made up my mind that I didn't really buy BG's claim, thought some of his behavior seemed like giving up, that the sacrificial lamb card was too easy to play from the position he was in and that he seemed to be overplaying it, and that, not having any previous experience playing with BG and not having hours to spend pouring over old games, I hadn't seen much to that point that made me think that he was going to be a strong contributor any further even if it was an accidental townie lynch. Those were my impressions.

And to beitko who's fastposted me now, have you read any of my recent posts? I never said I was sooooo convinced, I said I tipped 51/49 and with no other cases to go on and only a few days left, it was the best case I had for my vote at the time. I don't see how that's different from anyone else who piled on him to force the claim or afterward.

I am definitely going to vote for either of you:

-BG is a scum claiming to be a VT and you are indeed a townie: the colour thing, the fast claiming, the sacrified lamb case, the gain/loss for the town.. you found a few things against him that are quite convincing and that make it beneficial to vote against BG even if he is a VT

-BG is indeed a VT and you are scum pushing for his elimination: in this case your arguments are perfect. sacrifice a VT, who cares? it s for the own good of the town! if he is lynched, no one can blame you because you said that he is 49% of a possible VT. we will just learn more. And you would have 1 lesser townie to take care of before the night kill.

BG is a VT and Swifte is a townie: this is not completely impossible, nothing proves that one of the 2 is necesairly guilty. In this case, we listen to swifte and sacrifice BG to get more information? what kind of info could we get by lynching BG? and what kind of info would we get by lynching swifte? I think we would learn more by lynching swifte simply because his win win approach on BG is too suspicious to me. Also voting for him right now will probably give some valuable information.

I tried to count and I think I count 5 votes for Swifte. This case seems to be the biggest lead we have D1, and his defense is flimsy at best. I would like to continue the pressure.

For the reasons I stated on Page 25, and his rebuttal which did not convince me.

It was not a scum vote, it was the only remotely credible case we had established in all of Day 1 at the time and others were voting for BG for just that reason, and I'm really shocked at this point that it's been almost completely dropped just because I bought in to what everyone else was saying and what my gut was telling me at the time and made my vote.

As to the accusations of submarining against myself - the truth is this is my first forum based mafia game anywhere ever. I signed up cause I'm a CC medal whore (self-professed!) and I am familiar with the game from playing in real life so I thought I'd give it a shot. Yes, it took me a while to acclimate to the expections, I wasn't even sure how to make a case based on some transcripts and quotes, (I'm used to playing where Night is first so you at least know who the mob killed the first day to start the discussion), and so I took the time to watch and learn from more experienced players like strike and Roidon in where they were making their deductions from betiko and BG's replies, meanwhile contributing in the little ways I thought I could to show that yes, I'm commited to the game, and trying to support the town cause however I could, just still learning what to do. (True story - I had to ask safariguy what it meant to 'confirm in the thread') And when I finally thought I kind of had it figured out and stuck my toe out to state my assessment of events to date and that I finally felt comfortable voting, it's gotten slammed back in my face. You all are misinterpreting my noobiness as scuminess. I'd like to give more people some time to read my last two posts before claiming since we still have a little time left and I'm not quite imminent, but if there's a call for me to claim I will.

I think you should of announced you were new to forum mafia at the beginning of the game. Noobiness is often interpreted a scummy. I remember my first couple games Safari called me out every time and I took so much heat. Hell, he still does because I need a lot of improving. I haven't seen you before, but I am fairly new too and thought you have been here before.

And actually, I was used to playing where Night occured before day as well. And I fought and fought and fought for a NO Lynch for about 5 pages haha. But it doesnt seem like that is what you are doing. You seem to favor a lynch, and I think that is out of character for someone claiming noob. I think he is scum and wants a lynch. My vote sticks until I hear a claim.

If you are at L-2 as was previously mentioned it might be a good idea to claim. deadline is Sunday and some people will be less active tomorrow and Sunday (myself for example). If it is important enough then it might be a good idea to give people enough reason to unvote now.

4) they're both scum and this is a plan to establish one of them solidly as town? for the experienced players... does any of this make sense. I suspect that either Option 1 or Option 2 is the more likely option but I was wondering.

I got animated on #2 because I know for a fact that it is not true - and since I'm the only one that knows for sure I need to refute it for the good of the town and for myself. I added that additional information so everyone could see I am being 100% clear and transparent as to my actions so that you will see that what I have done to this point should not be interpreted as scum.

Night before day with a mafia kill sucks:

1. Because one role is eliminated from the game before they get a chance to contribute.

2. Because mafia are probably going to aim for an experienced player and town will be down one experienced player before day starts.

We have had night 0s in the past but usually no killing roles are allowed to use their abilities and it is often a sign that there is a cult.

As far as swifte. I'm not buying your reasoning for the vote. I honestly feel like you realized you were starting to become scrutinized for not voting and voted Bg hoping that it would relieve that pressure. If you had admitted this in your defense I would have been more inclined to believe you.

I felt there was an option missing but take this as an hypothesis. 5) Betiko, BG and swifte are scum. BG and swifte duel so the winner looks like town leading case on scum buddy. Betiko misses out the double scum option deliberately in the hope it doesn't occur to us. This is all extreme WIFOM.

You're both correct - betiko posted the 3 most likely scenarios, not every possible scenario. My comment was based on Swifte's reaction, in which responded to #2 as if it were the only case presented.

NOT evil doctor mind you.. just regular old townie doctor. I'm sorry that I've botched this all up and somehow managed to fling myself in to the limelight on Day 1. I definitely have a lot to learn about how to play this game in the forums.

@trini: its definitely possible. I believe Jonty used a similar strategy in Futurama Mafia (though the idea thetre may have been to try to get the inventor to use his one investigation on the mafia godfather. Pseudoclearing him while making it harder for townies to confirm their innocence).
