Roles and abilities complete with brief back story:
1. Aage-Lisa Lance (Lt. Maria Laguerta)
Back story: You have worked in the Miami Police Department for years and with the right amount of detective work and political savvy when speaking both to your superiors and to the press you have earned the job as Lt. of the Miami Metro Homicide division subsequently allowing you to micromanage and direct the rest of the homicide division on where to go.
Abilities: You are a Town Busdriver. Each night you may select two people to switch so that anybody who targets one person will get results from the other.
You win when all threats to town are eliminated.
2. Streaker-Vince Ellis (Vince Masuka)
Backstory: Determined to fit in with your coworkers you have developed a quirky but vulgar persona to guise your inner uncertainties with fitting in. Despite this you are a skilled forensics investigator and work hard to make sure the evidence points to the right man.
Abilities You are a forensics specialist. Due to your expertise in the forensics field you are able to find out what weapon was used to kill one person each day following the respective night phase.

3. Edoc-Rebecca Sills (Rita Bennett)
Backstory: Having recently gotten out of an abusive relationship with your ex you have been left emotionally damaged and uncertain in your relationships. However you were also left with a strong instinct to protect people and help them recover.
Abilities: You are a doctor. Each night you can select one person to protect. Rita also had a one shot ability to protect herself from kills including poisoning kills which otherwise could not be stopped by the doctor (only Debra was immune while she was still bulletproof) and Edoc used this successfully.

4. commander9-Ben Sills (Paul Bennett)
Back story: A recovering heroine addict you have recently been released from jail only to find your wife dating someone else. Still you desire to protect your family and while drugs have left you somewhat incapable of doing so without hurting them you try your best to protect [your family].
Abilities: You are jailkeeper/abusive addict. Every night you can target one person and they will be role blocked with a chance at being protected. There was a 50% chance that Commander's ability would land the person in the hospital when he targetted them. This would rob them of their vote for a day but also protect them from night kills (this saved aage's life day 1. Ironically both Iliad and Nark aimed for Edoc and edoc got switched with aage and commander saved aage after targetting edoc).

5. Ta1lgunn3r-Dr. Henry Morris (Dr. Emmett Meridian)
Backstory: With a degree in psychotherapy you have made lots of money helping rich patients deal with their problems however you also have the occasional call from a big bad wolf in your brain. It tells you to kill and so you have developed a hobby for taking rich clients and turning them against their own bodies. Some pills, bad therapy and the quick suggestion of a high caliber pistol and it seems they all listen to you
Abilities: You are a third party poisoner. Each night you select one person to target and by the end of the following night phase they will commit suicide (thus all the references to sorrow and guilt in the death scenes involving the poisoner).

6. anarkist-Dennis Johnson (Dexter Morgan).
Backstory: After the horrific events of your youth now repressed in your subconscious, you were taken in by a cop who raised you along with your foster sister. However due to your repressed memories you have an inner voice telling you to kill and it is for this reason that your foster father gave you a code that you follow with no room for error and now you hunt down those who prey on others to satisfy your own thirst. Recently though a new murderer has moved into your hunting grounds one with an affinity for killing very similar to your own and one who seems to know everything about you maybe even more than you know about yourself.
Abilities: You are a Vigilante. Each night you can target one person to target to kill or send in a response saying no target however the longer you wait the more demanding your dark passenger will become. On top of this you have a slight chance of being unblockable (explained later) or bulletproof (1/5 chance of bulletproof) depending on the night. Weapon of choice: Power drill.
Note: as you can see Nark wasn't forced to kill anyone but he was encouraged. This was just a measure that I came up with before Nark got the part to ensure that it didn't get to night 5 with no attempted vig kills.

7. Iliad-Ryan Smith (Brian Moser) AKA the Ice Truck killer
Back story: Driven by the gruesome murder of your mother when you were 4 you are compelled to kill. After spending over a decade in a mental health facility you’ve spent the last 15+ years honing your craft and making yourself practically undetectable now you’ve come back to Miami in search of your younger brother.
Abilities: You are an untrackable serial killer. You can kill one person a night without fear of being followed. Weapon of choice: Surgical saw.
Note: If Iliad had targetted Anarkist than Anarkist would have been given the choice to remain town or team up with Iliad. Either one could kill each night but not both. Iliad would remain untrackable and Anarkist would have been immune to investigations.

8. Nagerous-Jackson Brown (Jeremy Downs)
Back story: Once a promising student at a good high school, it all changed when you were raped by a fellow class mate. This event scarred you and led you to kill the boy who had done this to you, landing you with 5 years of jail time for manslaughter. You’ve been released now but the crushing memories of the event still linger in your head driving you to kill hoping to fill this empty feeling in your chest.
Abilities: You are a 1 shot bulletproof SK. Each night you can select one person to kill. Weapon of choice: Hunting knife.

9. targetman-Jesus Garcia (angel Batista)
Back story: You are a cop working for the Miami Metro Police Department for several years and are a determined worker for honesty and justice never compromising your values to do the right thing. This has given you insight into the workings of the human brain allowing you to tell killers apart from normal people this along with your access to case evidence makes you an excellent cop.
Abilities: you are a cop. You can investigate one person a night to receive alignment.

10. Safariguy 2.0-Lisa Johnson (Debra Morgan)
Backstory: Since a young age you have looked up to your father a man most regard as a super cop on the force. However your childhood was never overly simple, having felt that you were overlooked by your father for your foster brother you have become determined to live up to who he was and joined the Miami Police. Unfortunately for the most part due to superior jealousy between your deceased father and other members of the force, you have been stuck in dead end work as a hooker in the slimier areas of town. However as a new serial killer has moved into town, one who has been chopping hookers into neat packages it looks like you may finally get your chance to find your way out of this dead end vice work and into homicide.
Abilities: You are a protected enabler. You have all the files related to the Ice Truck Killer on your person, if you are killed than all evidence on the case will be lost. You are also bulletproof as long as your brother is alive. This is where Dexter's unblockable kill would have potentially come in.

11. Ga7-Jordan Downs (James Doakes).
Backstory: Having fought down in Haiti as part of U.S. military special ops. Forces you have become a hardened veteran this has not only gifted you with the ability to kill but a strong insight into the personal demons of others one that you’ve found extremely useful as a Miami Metro Homicide Detective in catching scum.
Abilities: You are a cop (paranoid)/1 shot vig. You are able to investigate one person each night as well as a one shot ability to kill a target by sending me a pm stating your target (For Example Kill Skoffin) that can be used at night.

12. Drabod-Mary Ports (Camilla Figgs)
Backstory: You are a file clerk at the Miami Metro Police Station. You don’t see much action but having worked there for so long and in the area you know just about everyone at the police station and they know you. Being close to the files has also allowed you to get to know certain people both in and out of the department and in doing so you have learned their habits and where they like to go when.
Abilities: You are a tracker. You choose one person to follow each night and find out who they visited.

13. /-Tony Bailes (Tony Tucci)
Backstory: You have worked at the local hockey stadium as a security guard for years since getting out of prison. Now you have gone through hell. You were kidnapped and experimented on by Miami’s most notorious serial killer in years and have lost both a leg and an arm. Now you find yourself at the mercy of the same man to regain your former prowess.
Abilities: You are an amputee. You have no actions and can only hope for the right person to target you so you can regain your abilities.
Note: If Iliad had targetted him he would have become a security guard which interestingly enough would have been almost the same role that Spike was in the buffy mafia...targeted one person a night simultaneously role blocking them and preventing all actions from affecting them (role block, Investigation, busdrive, etc.) However if the target was aimed at to be killed than / died.

14. Skoffin-captain Wolfe (Captain Matthews)
Backstory: As Captain of the police department you run everything however because of a love of the media for the most part you prefer to run interference keeping people in the department from making it look bad and damage control on the truly vicious murders.
Abilities: You are a role blocker. every night you can target one person and prevent them from performing their actions.

15. Safariguy 1.0-Allen Matthews (Neil Perry)
Backstory: Working with computers you are quite skilled at your job however you feel the inner need to be noticed for something grand yet nothing seems to fit until you hear on the news about a serial killer who drains his victims of blood and chops them into small pieces. Suddenly inspired you realize that you want to be able to take credits for these killings and make them your own.
Abilities You are a 3rd party hider. You can choose one person each night and if they are targeted you will be affected instead.
Note: it probably would have been less confusing to call him a magnet. He could choose one person to target and all actions would hit him but any actions directed at him would still hit which is why tails was able to kill him after targetting him night 1.
You win if a serial killer wins.
Note: I realize now this may not be clear but he had to be alive for this to be of effect. I also realize this role had the lowest chance of winning in the game...sorry Safari...
Contemplated Alternate Variation of Roles:
1. Dexter Morgan-Town JOAT.
Reason not included: Ultimately Vigilante fit so well for Dexter I decided that I didn't want to stray from that.
2. Dexter Morgan-Town Elite Body guard
Reason not included-same as above also balance issues.
3. Debra Morgan-cop
Reason not included: ultimately I found Angel Bautista the better fit as the main cop. Other than that I didn't want to overload the game with cops which would have been easy in this game.
4. Angel Bautista-Naive cop
Reason not icluded: again didn't want to include too many cop roles and I also hate roles that are in my opinion completely useless. I wanted every role to have their part to play in the unfolding of the game.
5. Angel Bautista-body guard
reason not included: for one thing i was worried about overloading this game with protections and another while I think it would have fit his personality there was no good example from season 1 that I could find of Angel acting as the body guard.
6. Neil Perry-naive psychopath (Immune to investigations. sends in one "kill" every night that doesn't actually do anything.)
Reason Not Included-I really wasn't sure if this role would be fair to the person playing as it. Immune to investigations was a big bonus but other wise another useless role.
7. James Doakes-Vigilante
Reason: only would have gone this route if I had made dexter the joat or Elite body guard.
Roles I Contemplated Using
1. Harry Morgan-sadly just an honorary mention. I could never find a balanced role that fit with his character and in my opinion the game mechanics.
2. Carlos Guerrero-mafia godfather
Reason: I had already decided to make Dexter an Sk only mafia when I thought up the idea of using him.
3. Norberto Cervantes-mafia goon
Reason: same as above.
4. Jorge "The Coyote" Castillo-SK/lover (one kill per night dies if his lover dies)
Reason-unsure how I would balance this.
5. Valerie castillo-Lover (Dies if Jorge Castillo dies)
Reason unsure how to balance with game.
