The cop is a powerful role, but it becomes much more powerful when a Sane Cop is paired with a Pro-Town Doctor. When both these roles are know to be present, the cop can safely claim and reveal his investigations. This is commonly known as the Follow the Cop problem.
Follow the Cop
A strategy/habit of over-reliance on Cop results in finding Scum, rather than analyzing/playing the Day Game. Usually indicates either lazy players or a weak setup; methods to avoid it include Millers, Godfathers, Mafia Roleblockers, non-sane Cops, uncertain presence of Investigative Roles in the game setup, or removing Protective Roles that can defend an 'outed' Cop.

Skittles! wrote:In this thread, the CC Mafia community helps you, a learner of the game, identify frequent terms and rules throughout the game. With the rules, they can be changed by the mod of their game if they wish, however these are the general rules followed by each mod.
Click on the 'spoiler' to see a few of the terms used on CC Mafia:
Below is a list of the rules used through the different games on this forum. Mods can change these the way they wish their game to be played. Thank you Iliad for these.
Next is a list of basic rules which new moderators should add into their game, so their players know what is unique with that game (e.g., how long day and night lasts.)
Soon to be added: A FAQ section which will help newbs of the game learn more about the game.
Thank you for This random site, otherwise known as Spogg, which I stumbled upon. Thanks also to whoever has helped as well to add to the list.

Why isn't he allowed to? I don't want to argue with the mod, but you did post the setup of the roles in the signup thread. I mean, with all due respect vodean, you aren't a bad mod, but why would you tell everyone exactly how many of each roles there are? This is exactly the problem that will occur if everyone knows the setup. I mean, in the other large mafia games you've played, how many mods give out the setup right away? Just a friendly suggestion to hide the setup from us and make us try to figure out how many mafia, town power roles, manipulative roles, cult, third-party there are.
Back to the game, if the cop is modkilled, the town is probably going to lose unless they get very very lucky with the lynches. Besides, you're basically saying that the mass roleclaim tactic is also invalid. Really, in any mafia game, anyone should be able to claim whatever they want to whenever. But to keep this post on topic, does anyone have any leads? Or are we just going to play random voting until we force a lynch?
UTAlan wrote:I say we mass claim. What's vodean gonna do, mod-kill us all?
naxus wrote:yeah but unless the doctors bulletproof then he'll be lynched right away
