actually I think it's more that he got persuaded by the town, and maybe didn't want to look like mafia so went with the town.

Pretty much. I got convinced that the doc (if it wasn't NES, unfortunately it seemed that he was) could protect him if he role claimed. As stated before, it's just unfortunate that he was the doc and so therefore couldn't exactly role claim and protect yourself.

Meh, Skittles! story is sound, because his explanation here goes along with how his posts where going then.
