As I said previously, I was disturbed by Simon's mere suggestion that lynching the vig might not be such a bad idea. I have seen no defense from him that changes my mind on this matter so my vote remains with Simon.

As I've said before I'm not sure that either sam or simon gave off that much scum tells but if any simon is the one. Will vote him to get a lynch if no one has any better ideas.

Yea, doesn't seem to be any forced lynches here.

Sorry about that, it is of course necessary to lynch the scummiest person each day, I believe Simon is scummier at the moment, Sam's mistake seems to obvious to be scummy, but simon's action seem unusually overt as well, I would recommend neither as a sure thing lynch, however I would say either is ideal for day one lynch, as most of the town has weighed in with evidence, there will be plenty of leads to follow up on by day 2.

Vote Simon as others have stated he did have a scummy statement following Sam's and on top of that has gone lurking. I've talked to the mod about my role while I'm gone so it'll be taken care of.

The Never Ending Story! Day One!

Postby Nzen on Wed May 27, 2009 10:54 pm

These arguments against Simon are detestible. Town doesn’t need a lynch unless scum are in the crosshairs. Otherwise only the scum will benefit. Three –HALF – of the bandwagon cited wanting a lynch independent of the accusation:
Stroop wrote:I'm going to go with the Simon bandwagon on this one. vote Simon

sam_levi_11 wrote:
suspect101 wrote:If no majority is reached there will be no lynch.

This is why i changed to vote simon. it is now even, so people, try not to vote unless you are sure.

gimpyThewonder wrote:if it isn't too late i'll switch my vote unvot vote simon just to get a succesful lynch and draw day 1 shenanigins to a close

The other half cites Simon’s "willingness" to lynch a town vigilante:
pmchugh wrote:Better to off someone who is a town vig? not only are you trying to work out exactly who it is; you are considering killing a town member who could become useful? I say tommorow that the vig should wait and when we decide on a lynch we get him to do it, giving us two lynches.
But in the mean time this is an incredibly scummy statement, you should never lynch a townie power role espicially when you may be able to influence their descisions.
unvote vote simon

thischarmingman wrote:this is the most logical vote ive seen so far Vote Simon

MrDizzle wrote:So you want to get rid of townies huh? unvote vote Simon

Town ought to hold itself to a higher standard than this because mafia is a cult. They will recruit one player and (via Gmork) kill another. If another vigilante exists and chooses incorrectly, we stand to lose four members by morning two. If you lynch Simon, that will push it to five – one third of town. What information do you expect to gain that you don’t indirectly already know? Namely, that one or more of those voting for Simon are cult. Stroop and gimpyThewonder, I expect you to back off or be revealed as scum or fools for voting to seal a lynch.
Shame on the rest for the flimsy foundation this bandwagon started with:

Simon Viavant wrote:I think charmingman would be the most likely vig. I'd say if we have a vig this triggerhappy, it might be better to off him now, but after all it is a town role so I'll give whoever it is a second chance. If we have any more of these deaths without good reason we should lynch him though.
Right now sam doesn't seem the most suspicious.

Look at what he says: a capricious or misled vigilante is a threat to town. Others share this sentiment: sam, I, and pmchugh. Yes, pmchugh’s demand for a democratically bound vigilante implies a consequence for ignoring town. Yet, the players on Simon’s bandwagon are willing to forgive Sam’s commitment to the principle. Sure, sam passed it off as a mistake; he confused vigilante with serial killer. I would forgive it too, but for the fact that he never unvoted for me.

Recall, he thought the vigilante was a newbie, so he voted for me. However, after he agreed that the vigilante is town, he should have unvoted to signal actual agreement. Sam only switched his vote to save his own skin by voting for Simon. Some complain that Simon meant to implant anti-noob sentiments. His method pales in comparison to actually voting. Again, look at Simon’s bandwagon: votes attract votes. That way, we don’t ‘waste a bandwagon’ or whatever.

Pmchugh complained that Simon didn’t commit. (Tellingly, he also complained at any unvotes without revotes against town.) Simon clearly stated that he did not feel convinced that either of his highest suspects had made a strong enough case. His caution ought be imitated rather than punished. A bandwagon on such a feeble rationale has surely caught town rather than cult.

Still, the alternative is not no lynch. Sam backed the exact same sentiment with his vote, without promising to wait until tomorrow. Sure, he waved it off as forgetfulness, but did not unvote. Pmchugh represents another strong candidate for beginning this nonsensical argument. Now, he has forgiven sam, because at least sam committed to lynching town, whereas Simon slunk into the shadows.

I urge town members on Simon’s bandwagon to unvote. Because of LSU’s L-1, all it would take is one player, cult or otherwise, to eliminate a potential power role.

look we all know that day 1 rarely catches out scum. what it does is give us information to work w/. someone has to be the sacrificial lamb, it's the way the game is played. the fact that Simon has yet to defend himself looks, well, bad. is it enough for a lynch? for Day 1, you bet it is. now i'm not going to throw the axiom of wanting a no lynch your way b/c your argument was sound and i enjoy logical pleas, but between lynching a townie for info or letting him live while the scult recruits/kills for free tonight while we gain nothing? it shouldn't be a difficult decision really.

Sorry I couldn't get on the computer for a while.
I guess I'll claim:

I'm the scientist's wife (not really a conventional role in mafia, just in this game I think), I have no powers other than my vote and to win I just have to survive to the end.

About my vig comments:

Yes vig is a town role and we shouldn't kill whoever it is right now, but if we have any more of these random deaths it might be better to lynch them.
No experienced vig would make a kill day one, if these random killings continue it would obviously benefit more to get rid of the vig. We already have to deal with the mafia and if we have twice the number of deaths as normal, we have no hope, even if 1/5 of those deaths is mafia.

Well I think this pretty much seals the lynch, you claim a survivor and we need a lynch to gain info. If we are wrong hell we will only lose a 3rd party member who can win with mafia if we are right then we caught scum. Its win/draw and a much safer bet than anyone else IMO. I support a hammer vote.

At Nzen:

It's a well thought out arument but there are some major flaws in it, however I think that it is irrelevent now in light of simons claim. One thing I will say to it is that it is imperitive that we do lynch today, here are the possible outcomes:

No lynch:
1 townie dies
1 townie is recruited
We have as little info tomorow as we do now.

Lynch wrongly:
1 townie dies
1 townie is recruited
1 3rd party member is killed
We have a lot more info, knowing that simon was 3rd party.

Lynch Correctly:
1 townie dies
1 mafia member dies
1 townie is recruited
Now we have info to go on, i.e. those that defended simon.
And most importantly scum have either lost there killer or recruiter.

The benifits of getting it right far outway the negatives of getting it wrong.

The Nothing grows stronger, every second, of every minute, of every day. Knowing this, the people of Fantasia grew suspicious of Simon Viavant. Simon spoke of wanting to kill someone, who is considered by most, to be an important player in removing Fantasia of The Nothing. After hearing of his accusations, Simon slowly explained who he was and what he meant. A majority of Fantasians, even though they possibly believed his claim, decided better to be certain and rid Fantasia of Simon forever.
