The role PM's are ready. I only need to randomize the roles, distribute them and start the game thread. However, since I'll be away this weekend, I don't want to start the game until Monday. So please have a few more days of patience before the game you've been waiting a full month for finally commences!

USA animation voice actors sucks compared to mexican, french and japanese voice actors; thought i think they suck less than spanish voice actors, anyway is still quite painful to hear if you had the choice to get used to better things and got a discerning taste

in fact USA animation is the one and only animation i prefer to not watch in original language if i got the choice.

i used to watch anime in Japanese, but it just got tiresome. And some animes the English voice acting is superior imo. witness Cowboy Bebop, I find the US voices far more fitting to the characters. but we all have our likes/dislikes i guess

I prefer USA voice acting. The people actually have voices that match their charecter. In someother languages sometimes when im listening im like, "What?!?!?!! He does even sound bad!"(Orochimaru in japenese is a bit weird). Plus subtitles are a hassle, so I guess im a bit biased.

nope, it has everything to do w/ preferance. if i'm watching a foreign film i'll almost always watch w/ subtitles and not dubbed. but if its animated i usually try out both subtitles AND dubbed and almost always prefer the American (or more frequently Canadian since many dubs are done up in Vancouver) voice actors to the often shrill high pitched Japanese cast. just because you're biased against English voice casts doesn't mean we are too lazy to read [-X

Lol, it made me laugh to read the "shrill high pitched japanese voice" as last time I read some defense of dubbed anime it was about a female character sounding "too manly" in japanese (which fitted her character far more than a girly voice)

Anyway I think while the problem is more cultural than anything, in general anything is always best viewed in its original version. Flores and I would never consider watching an american or english movie in dubs if we have a say, simply because when acting is great the original voices are best suited; when it sucks a dub won't save it either way; an exception to that is cartoons. I never watched much cartoons but take the Simpsons or South Park - it seems there's a trend there of giving any kid a highpitched girly voice there for some reason, making dubs potentially superior and less ear-scratching, which is at least the case for spanish and french dubs

Now putting that aside, there's another thing that is common in our cultures and not in Japan: dub actors are underrated, and a relatively small area of the profession. This is not the case in Japan: the demand is huge, otakus have their prefered voice actors, etc... Making it a highly competitive area, therefore making general quality better than in other countries. I'm only talking about objective skill here; of course there can be decent english dubs sometimes but how many times do the actors sound like they would be best suited to dub an italian porn movie? More importantly, why would I want to expose myself to an "adaptation" as is still often the case with translations and dubbing made to fit the american audience?
That said, I think everyone can have a biais over these things; I realized that when starting to watch Avatar, Flores and I are so used to japanese voice acting that an original english cast sounded downright weird. It took a while getting used to, but it was overall pretty decent. I guess a similar biais can be had the other way around (even though it is indeed sad when the choice is made against reading); either way personally I love too much the japanese language to give it up to an excellent english dub

fair enough, like i said we've all got preferences. And I do tend to try out both versions before deciding which i like better, subtitles or dubbed. I was just taking exception to the offhand dismisal of American/Canadian voice acting as being somehow inferior. Just like in Japan voice talents over here also gain a following, though not to the same extent for sure. I haven't yet watched Avatar b/c i missed the first few episodes and I can never jump into something having missed the begining (now that its over though I plan on watching them all). so I can't comment as to how good the cast is. but the most important thing is that you enjoy what you are watching, if subtitles is what floats your boat then by all means enjoy it that way, just remember that some of us actually enjoy the voice acting that you condemn

In case anyone cares: the Dutch dubs are pretty decent, except I don't like Uncle Iroh's voice. I mostly watched the English version myself. Anyway..
