Has there been a longer speed game?

I'm sure there has, but this game was a whopper.. Game 5491063

103 rounds, 15 hours, 3 babysitters on off the bench as the participants fell off of their chairs from sheer exhaustion.

Mad Pineapples did an amazing fourteen and a half hours with only a half an hour break for his tea. Ah, to be sixteen again, and so full of beans!

Mr Changsha managed a still quite stupendous nine hours (3 am China time mental collapse) before handing over to Fruitcake who saw it through with another six hour stint.

Spoongod found himself 'wifed out' of the game after a mere five hours, but subbed in that most resiliant of players Agent 86 who while also on China time managed to maintain for an enormous nine and a half hours until about nine am in the morning.

Amusingly, once Fc took over for me, I suggested that Agent 86 would have to flag soon as the early morning hours rolled by. Therefore, concentrate on Mad Pineapples and the game would be won in a couple of hours tops. However, Agent 86 rarely gives anything up easily...apparently even when merely babysitting for another account. Is his nine and a half hours a record for a babysitter in a speed game?

Finally, much kudos to Fruitcake. I can't think of another player I'd rather have take over a tight three man game. I went to bed confident of the points and sure enough Fc delivered the goods!

Top Man!

I think endurance is a much underrated quality in CC. When I played Risk at university, we'd start at about midday (well we were students) in a five or six man format (always flat rate) and often go on into a second day with minimal breaks.

Stimulants were optional...but advised!

I'm currently setting up an 8 man dubs 2.1 (no cards) speed and am thinking about trying to do it on a clan basis. 4 clans, each clan able to sub in babysitters at will, playing a format that will probably (though far from definitely as in my experience this game is quite open) go past 12 hours and might well go through the 24 hour mark. If you think that there are eight players with up to 5 minutes for a turn, then a 40 minute round would not be impossible...though I would think it would average at about 20 minutes a round. My latest game (in the casual style) went 40 rounds, the longest so far, so the game could go very long indeed if teams are really digging in.

But the game would challenge a clan's ability to organise themselves, work as a team (in a very literal sense) and show just how much grit they really have. CC seems to value flashing brilliance; but endurance, stoicism and yes, sheer grit should not be ignored.

I see no one has found a longer speed game yet... ;)

Interestingly it actually worked out at 3 points income per hour of playing....if only all games gave that kind of return

Yeah, but that's a different format. If no one can find one then I expect to have my name added to one of those lists; 'Winner of longest speed game - Mr Changsha'. ;)

It's times like these I wish I wasn't a mod (or that we had better account sitting features!) It's not so easy to find another mod who can dedicate 9 hours to trying to win me a couple of points, so I'd be more likely to go the 16 hours straight or deadbeat. :?

That being said, I could babysit for another player if it looked like a game was taking a while like this one - I'm not a part of any clan, but if you find yourself in a situation similar to this I might be willing to help out!

Awesome tenacity on all sides, that is truly how the game was meant to be played.

I guess I had better tell the story, I just don't know when to throw the towel in. When Fruitcake joined I knew I was in trouble, but fought hard not expecting it to continue and continue. I may have a record to my own, the first on this site for a sitter ( over 9 hours in a speed game ). Eventually had to give up so I could get at least 3 hours sleep before work. It was like having a huge hangover and took a couple of days to recover, would do it again as the players I had the pleasure of meeting made it worth it. Congratulations to Mr C and Fruitcake for their win =D> To Pineapples you played well. To Spoongod, sorry I just couldn't keep going. I almost got there as I had a slight advantage about an hour before I had to finish.
I'm ready for the dubs game Mr C, let me know when you put this together.

I played a speed game for 15 hours once AND I never had a sitter. I just picked up my laptop and brought it around the house with me. Made dinner, cleaned the house, did laundry, read a book to my daughter and I still won the game. The other players each used sitters now and then, I deserved the win. :P

Game 7233684

Not 15 hours (yet), but pretty damn impressive all the same. No babysitters used as of yet either.
