I would like to know if it is possible to change your username on CC. I am considering changing my username in the near future. If yes, then how would you go about doing so?

No please don't. We generally don't change usernames. Maybe in the future.

Lack, what if the site could profit financially from those wanting to change their name by charging a fee for the service? Would you do it then? A fee would probably still prevent a flood of people from asking about it as well as benefit the site, which I would not mind doing. Or is this still too bothersome of a task to do it at all?

Have you gotten your real name legally changed ever? Your name is all you really have on this site to identify you... I don't understand why you'd want to change you name. If you really want a new name, then sign up for a new account and abandon your old one. Your score will eventually return to where it is now. After all, it's not like you've got that great of a score anyway, so what else are you trying to keep?

Well, kc-jake, I would like to retain the nice feedback comments I have received during my time here as well as all the games I've completed so that I can always refer to them. They serve as a history of my time here at CC. So, it's no really a matter of my score as it is the two things mentioned above. No, I have never had my name changed either.
You do not really need to understand my reasons for wanting to change my name. It's simply a personal preference. I have thought of a name I would much rather use here than the one I currently have and am simply exploring possible options to have it done. It's no "big" deal if itr can't be done right now. I'll wait for the time when it can be done.

I think this is a good idea. Right now I have to do name changes manually and I don't have the time to bother. But if I automate the process, it would still be something to discourage because it puts a load on the server, let's you skirt around a bad reputation, and can be confusing for other members. So a service charge would help discourage people while allowing those who really want a different name to get one (for example, people who sign up with their real names not understanding what a username is).

Thank you for the timely response, lack. I am glad you are open to idea of a service charge for name changes to help cover the inconvenience of doing it manaully because it really is a personal favor.
Please let me know when you do implement some effective way of handling this. I'll be waiting in the meantime. Thanks again for the great work you do wit hthe site. I am proud to be a Premium member

Make me a forum admin and I'll do it for people for free. You won't have anything to worry about, I'll take care of everything.

Thanks, I found it about a year ago from another forum. It's pretty funny, I'm especially digging the current story arc... Mick is definitely gonna hit that shit.

Something to consider about this... if I had a player on my ignore list, who then changed his name, would that person's new name still be on my ignore list?

I believe so...

I would think so "if" that person were to retain the same account. It would probably not be on your ignore list if that person were to delete their account in order to create a new one for the purpose of having a new name.

my name change script goes through everything from ignore lists to the entire 2 GB Game Log performing a search-and-replace. so, yes.
it is currently broken

i have to bring it up to date...

Wow, it would be 100x easier if you used userid's instead of usernames as identifiers. I consider it bad practice to link to any variable object by its name, since as some point, someone is going to want to change its name.

Yes, it was a poor design choice to index everything by username. I'm going to have to change that in one of the next updates.
