I chose other. I never join games anymore. I get my partners together and we start the games. The only games I join after someone is tourny games, and I do not care about the rank there unless its a terminator game.

i just mean, trusting the other person to not deadbeat, play like an idiot, etc. i voted new recruit because that never works out for me. if i had a partner, i would definitely start the games as well

I've stopped jooining games with nubes because so many of them deadbeat on their first game and never play again. And as far as other ranks I don't disciminate much (avoid colonels as much as possble)

I notice new recruits if they are going to be on my team and i dont join games which have a really high rank teamed with a really low rank.

I'll admit that I don't join games if I see 5 recruits in there already, partly because of the risk/reward, partly because of the deadbeating, partly because I want some experienced resistance.
I tend to try finding games with people who're sergeant and above,
but to me the most important criteria are the game settings.

I know of a couple higher ranked people who play against weak players.

I play against lower ranks all the time. It's a lot riskier because you stand to lose more and gain less than if you play against higher ranks. It's more challenging to keep your point total high that way. And as for skill, just because a player is new doesn't mean they suck. And if the player does suck, it doesn't mean they might not be luckier than you on any given day.
I do try to avoid noobs at all costs due to the rampant deadbeating I've experienced in the past.

I avoid Jolly Roger cause his avatar terrifies me.

If you say, "See you at the movies" three times while gazing into his eyes, Roger Ebert will visit you in your dreams with messages from beyond the grave.

I'm a lieutenant with the points of a major... And just because I didn't join so many 6 player games with 5 recruits or privates doesn't mean it was easy.

yeah, if someone's way better than me i dont join, cuz it's suicide, especially if it's a game with all privates and new recruits and 1 captain

I honestly don't look. I'm definitely up for a challenge.
I'm new to this place but not to the game of risk as I"m sure that's the case for many of you.
It's definitely humbling though when someone just wipes the floor with you and there's nothing you can do about it.

I tend to start alot of games...... so by doing that i would have to say that i will play any rank that joins and will join any other game regardless of who is in it.
It all comes down to how scard of losing points you are, some people on this site take losing points way to seriously and have formed their own little "club" to protect themselves. Others wait to see who joins a game to decide what games they enter, others only play certain types of game settings.
Either way as long as you enjoy playing the game who cares...lol

looking more at the setup of the game...
though i like to play high-ranked players and learn a thing or 2 from them... i'm a newbie here and made captain, but surely got a lot to learn!
and who better to teach me than a ferocious colonel who probably wipes the board with me
but apart from that i just play for fun and with 1 game taking like 2 weeks i start as many as possible

I just check who started the game, I'm not too concerned with their rank but I check their feedback (if they have neg. feedback). I won't join if a newbie has started a game but I don't mind playing with them, I've had my a$$ kicked by all ranks and learnt something from all ranks, sometimes newbies play like generals and sometimes majors play like newbies - (now see how silly that sounds).
The most irritating and frustrating factor of this game is deadbeating. I have a partner that I usually play team games with, so I avoid being left hanging. It's also just not satisfying when you play a team and one of them deadbeats.

I don't mind who i play and i lose points to all ranks graciously,
I like playing doubles and start a lot of games and as i don't have a regular doubles partner i admit i'll drop a game if a new recruit joins my team, only because of the deadbeat issue and i'm sure i've read that this is being looked into
other than that everyones welcome
except the 76 people on my ignore list who beat me recently

sucks to lose or wait

i find that i watch for people much higher rank, and i have also found playing new recruits creates a turn/day for 3 days until any new recruits that were not actually serious get kicked.
i watch for too high of rank and no games finished.

I haven't even been playing a week, and I'm still a

rank but I'll avoid any others like the plague if I can help it. I'm at Conquer Club to play, not watch 24 hour clocks come and go because some ADD afflicted kid decided to go ride bikes and then forgot he even signed up at the website.

I'll play anyone.. but like everyone else, don't particularly like people who haven't played before

So I try to avoid games brand new no games played recruits are in, but otherwise just play my style of game....
