Bombardment

So if a territory you bombard only has one army you can lose an army but there is no possibility to take the single? Why not make it so you cant bombard a single army, that it needs to be two or more? Is it something in the xml mechanics? I am playing my first bombardment map (feudal wars) and it was trial and error to figure this out.

Bombardment is a long range attack (like firing cannons at your enemy). You are able to destroy your enemy and replace them with a neutral army, but no men of your own actually traveled to the country. You wear firing artillery at the enemy, not infantry.

Use bombardments to weaken your enemy's defenses, and then send the infantry across the ground to seize the territory.

Thanks for the response.

That much I understand but how do you explain losing armies from firing artillery? Backfires? I know thats the way it has to be. My only question is why does the game allow you to attack the single neutlral that is left behind when the only possible outcome of said attack is that the attacker loses an army? Cant you make bombarding a single neutral army impossible?

It was on the Feudal Wars map where starting out they are all neutral armies. I wasnt paying attention and accidentally attacked the neutral past 1 army. I'm sure I'm not the first person to do this.

it's only dumb if he knew any better. if he's never played a map with bombardment in it, how's he supposed to know?

i've seen high ranked players get confused about that in the WWII Western Front map.

and of course, on the D-Day map, those bombardments let you send armies to what you conquered.

it's a nuance that wasn't included in the board game RISK, and so anyone new to this site cannot be expected to know how bombardment and neutral armies function.

therefore, Sir Ricco, you're a douche bag, and you're the dumb one.

a boo yeah!

Thank you for stating lies that will only hurt your character.

careful lads, lets not be insulting anyone here :)

Hungry...Yes, we could theoretically not allow you to attack a neutral army with a bombardment, but then, we could also stop people from making other silly mistakes like not paying attention when someone just keeps hitting attack and doesnt pay attention when it's suddenly another pair of countries because you lost all your armies (yes, I have done that many times).

We've never been too much for hand holding and part of the game is to pay attention, learn the rules, and know the features. you know, survival of the fittest and all that :)

If we have time in our coding lineup we might change that, but right now, we have some pretty big fish to fry so these things might have to wait sadly.

I'm going to go ahead and move this from GD to Q&A as well, because it fits a bit better there.

Have a good one

I can understand that, but it's still not immediately obvious when you're playing said map for the first time. Perhaps somewhere in the FAQs there should be something about bombardment?

Actually - Bombarding a 1 neutral army is a cheap way of getting a card... (in card games)
