Question: Do you help people.

To kind of isolate what I mean by help, I'll give you an example.

In my last 2 doodle earth games, I noticed both players were making terrible errors.

The one, I gave a positive feedback- because it was minor- but I also gave him a little blurb about his mistake at the end, and told him how to fix it.

The second, I sent a PM to him, because he was constantly attacking 3 vs 3 the first turn, ultimately ending in him losing the game.

So, really I have 2 questions.
#1- Do you ever send a PM/ give advice to a player if he looks as though he could benefit from it? and;
#2- If sent a PM, would you invite the "constructive criticism" and potentially alter your style of play because of it?

Thanks,
-John

These two guys had 150+ games (I believe) under their belt, so not really new.

Does that change your mind?

I sometimes get negative responses from people who I try to help, those "who do you think you are?" sort of things.

Personally, when I write something, I normally say "I don't mean to preach, I just want to hopefully help your game a bit, so you can win a bit more", not really that harsh, but thats the gist of it.

I would love feedback from players, if it was good advice, not specific things, but something like "It's not a good idea to attack 3 vs 3's" or, "Sometimes it's best to defend if you don't really have a good base anywhere, this can be done by deploying by my strong areas, and attacking into my strongest area"

Like I said (or meant to anyways) I don't do this often, and have only done it today for some reason, just wondering what others think.

yeah, i'll help after the game, to avoid being accused of trying to have an alliance or influence the game. and if there is a real question in the forum, after i'm a jackass, i'll pm them with a real answer or how/where to find the answers they are looking for. i appreciated all the help people gave me when i first got on the site, and i still appreciate helpful comments from my peers...-0

p.s.-ducks included... even as midguided as you were.

I'm thinking the PS isn't directed at me?

Anyways, of course I'm talking after, so they can reflect, and attempt to improve.
Like is often said "You only learn from your mistakes".

A couple cooks that were TERRIBLE I helped, I mean, one I sorta took his money and ran   I started a 1vs1 and beat him, but I told him we'd have a classic rematch and I'd give him a few pointers. Well, actually I told him I'd have a classic rematch and take note of a few errors he was making(even though I already knew most of them). Then after the first two games with him I gave him tips the third time, but he beat me so I never "taught" again. I only one a little more than I loss... 2 wins, 1 loss, nearly same difference...

So I just teach them and don't play 'em after telling them what to do!

yes to both [the second only if it was logical and seemed as though it would improve my strategy]

I just check and he's now a private =D> =D> =D> and was a cook with 'bout 800 points? anyways I'm surprised some of the people he's beaten after my advice! some high rankers! \:D/ anyways... He'll catch up to me soon! well prolly not, it takes real talent to be as good as me! :) JK I'm only a Private first class right now... I plan on moving up to corporal first class in the next few months! Quote me later(in a few months...)

If you personally don't understand something that you did, or wish to improve your play, but what if you thought your play was the best strategy going, and didn't know better, would you like the help of others, or on the other hand, if you noticed that someone had a very bad strategy (attacking 3 vs 3's) would you offer them help?

Wacicha started a group for lower ranks to get help on their current games. (Society of Cooks)

There are a few of us that help out as well. Wacicha great at helping others out.

I have directed a few newer players to read the threads he has made.

I know.
;)

But I was interested in you, Courtney, do, not Wacicha, because I know what he does already. :)

i try to help people when i see them making big errors, small errors i dont. but id say most of the people that i do give advice to dont take it apreciatively, it usually ends in a negative feedback, or a suicide, but sometimes they actually listen and adapt.

Yeah I help players out. I wish that there were more people to help out. It would have been nice if someone had helped me out when I first came to the site. I was just pointing out a major helperouter ;)

good idea! is there a minimum rank to help out in the society of cooks? I'm usually a high scoring private first class breaking through colonel every once in a while... Actually, I'd like a really good player to help me :D I'm humble! I just don't see sometimes how they beat me! I've played RISK for years before CC but I mean theres some skill/strategy I'm missing!

I mean I wouldn't be a priv. 1st class/corporal otherwise!

Top Dog, Wacicha can add you to the group. Just give him a shout.

Just thought it was funny.

Shoot me a PM, I've been up to Captain for a while, just got back into the swing of things and am at around 1600 right now, I can give you pointers if you got questions.
