If you go by the formula continentBonus - pointsOfEntry, North America is the place to be.
Think about it - it has the same number of entry points as Africa, and gets 2 more armies per turn. Meanwhile, Australia and South America get 2 per turn, not even coming close to matching NA.
If you ever have a chance at NA, go for it over Australia. Or Asia for that matter.

this probably goes in strategy.
and you worded it wrong. With your question, the answer is Asia it has the biggest bonus. Im guessing you are asking which one you should try to get in a game. My answer would depends on your drop. I like Australia because you get 2 armies for 1 border and its very easy to grab and protect. From there, i try to expand slowly into Asia.

Your right about NA, but I always start in (well usually) a small continent, which is a stepping stone for NA, or Europe... Asia, very rarely...

Anyone who didn't answer Australia probably isn't very familiar with the game.

Depends on the drop, sometimes it's not actually good to go for a continent at all (ie. Escalating) and it is better just to go looking for easy cards and spread some armies across the board to make it harder to have yourself eliminated.
Watch some high-ranked standard games, and see where they are.
Many high-rankers don't even bother with Continents.

I say NA because in every game with 4 or more players, you will have at least 1 idiotic player whose thought process goes something like this:
"I have one or more territories in Australia. Therefore, I will disregard the rest of the game and concentrate all of my armies on taking the rest of Australia. Then I will turn my attention back to the rest of the map".
Problem is 2-fold - if you have more than one of these players, they suicide on each other, and if the other players are good enough, by the time the Australian looks up the other players will hold Africa or North America.
