Fog of War ethics

In a fog of war game, is it ethical to tell other players what I can see? For instance, if I know that a certain player is about to get a big bonus or just took over a continent, should I keep it to myself?

In non-fog games, if one player starts to dominate the game then everyone knows it. Should I tell the weaker players that they are about to get trampled?

Well it depends sometimes it can be sensible but usually no, so keep it to yourself unless you think you need help from another player to overcome an enemy.

In war, anything goes. Getting an advantage without cheating is part of the game. I see no problem releasing tidbits of information during these types of games.

So far I have one "Yes, go ahead it's fine" and one "probably not". How about a few more opinions?

I think it's fine, but some people don't like it and will leave you a negative if you do.

I don't see a problem with it, though maybe you shouldn't take it to the point where you list all the countries you see with the exact number of armies.

I think it's reasonable when the enemy is extremely strong.

Like maybe a 'wow, red has greenland! and central america! and look who controls alaska. ;)' or something similiar to that, hinting at it, but not actually saying that red has N.A. :)

obviously you would see the bonus in the game log.

That could work, though in that situation you would be the only one able to see those three countries.

I think that exchanging information private or public in the fog of war is acceptable.

There is a risk that such information may not be reliable or true but this is the risk you take.

If the player is not comfortable with players exchanging information, then he should stick to the non - fog games. Why should you insist on others to refrain when you could stick to the non-fog games if you don't wish to see such things?

I agree that some people resort to leaving you negs for this but to avoid these players in the future fog games, you can always put them on the ignore so they could not enter your games to avoid misunderstandings. I can tell you from experience, it is no fun playing with such a prig :)
