So I got in a little debate with someone in PMs. The guy is a captain rank who refuses to play me because I am a lowly somethingorother. I claimed that plenty of captains and above accept challenges from players ranked between ~900-1100. He says that there are not 5 captains+ on all of CC who accept challenges from low ranked players.

Rank is never something I pay attention to, but I just assumed that not all higher ranked players are rank snobs like this guy.

So if you are (or were) a captain or above and have, in the past accepted challenges from anyone with a score lower than 1,100 while you were ranked captain+, post here and let me know.

I start a lot of public games that everyone from cooks and up join.

And sometimes I lose.

It's part of the game.

Lots of captains just make open games where any rank can join.

This guy is probably just being a condescending jerk who falsely thinks he's too good to play with lower ranks.

Nevertheless he has the right to refuse to play whoever he wants. So nothing ya can do about it.

I don't actually want to play him. I suck at risk and he would probably mop up with me.

its that he refuses to play on the grounds that captains simply do not play lower ranked players.

It is sad really.

A lot of them don't.

Not all of us though... feel free to join any of my games at any point.... most of them are all captains and up, you could learn something :)

I've been a Captain and I'll always play anyone (as long as they're not on my ignore).

If I remember right, if the old scoring system had captain rank (wicked if you have the old rank list/points can you pm it to me so I can see what I was? lol) then I believe I was. If not, I still would...risk isn't all about the points, it's about having fun :D

Im fine with playing anyone. I will accept most challenges (but not 1v1, i hate those) and since all my games are public games, anyone from cook to conqueror can join them.

The only rank i would not challenge would be a cook with a score low enough to knock more than 70-80 points off of me with one win. That is just a risk i am not willing to take. Im fine with Cadets and Above.

(i am currently hovering around 2000, a little more, a little less)

In my public games, anyone can join...rank doesn't really matter. In my private games, there are ranks from cadet to captain....private games are about good games with friends and Xi folk.

I've got quite a few people on ignore...but it's because they (a) deadbeat, (b) miss lots of turns (c) are jerks and take the fun out of playing.

That said, I'm not exactly high profile and don't have tons of people rushing out to challenge me. :)

I'd play

I play with two relatives as a trio. We are all Captains, and play against anyone who wants to play. Some of our worst defeats were to lower ranking players. The rank doesn't always indicate how good the player is!

Same here, but I lose most of the time instead of sometimes.

I don't think that Captain is such a high rank now-a-days and those who don't play with lower ranks are just... lets not let it moved to FWs

I've been captain (I'm hanging between 1.8k-2k recently) and I'm playing with everybody. Though, yes, I don't create public games (except doubles with my partner) but I play in Wacicha games when he has them and I play in a lot of tournaments. I consider tourney games public ones because anybody can join them if they wish and there are players from cooks until Majors (and even a colonel, Clive, plays in some of them).

Cheers,
amazzony

Exactly! Besides, nobody starts at the level of Captain (not even Lack). Even the highest ranking player started with that big red "?" next to their name. How did those Captains, Colonels, Brigadiers, and Generals become such kick-ass players? By playing against more experienced, higher ranking players.

New players can learn a lot from more experienced players. Personally I have the most respect for players who share their knowledge with others, either by coaching them on the forums, or simply allowing them to play with them and learn from the experience.
