Have you ever had a new player join a game and deadbeat??

Hi,
I was quite happily playing a game the other day (7 players on classic), it was taking it's time because there are not just 1 but 2 new players that have decided to deadbeat without taking a turn.
All of a sudden one of the other players types in chat that he suspects one of us is cheating?!? Is it a multi? I hear you ask, no not as we know it. This accusing player has decided that two new players joining and not taking a turn an impossible coincidence and they must have been created by someone else in the game to give them a tactical advantage. The player had researched other games and noticed that this has happened quite a lot of one of us so they must be the cheat!
One classic line he used to prove there must be some wrong doing -
"Seriously why would a person register, sign up here and not play a turn?"
(a question we have all asked ourselves I am sure)
To start with I find this quite amusing until I find out that this player has filed a cheating report and is actually serious!! To make matter worse I start to investigate the 'evidence' put forward and get a sneaking feeling that I might be the player he suspects is cheating. As I am the only one that has had any noticable number of deadbeaters in his recent games.
Anyway the purpose of this thread is not to clear my name, I only play from either work or home and both have static ip's. I just want to know if anyone on this forum has ever experience a new player joining a game and then deadbeating without playing a turn. Prehaps, if some of you have, then this guy might realise it is not such an unusual occurance.

Deadbeating newbies is about the most common thing on CC. It's happened to everyone at least once (not that I mind too much, given that it's just free points).
The complaining guy sounds like he's just being paranoid and/or n00btacular, just ignore him, crush him, take his points, then spam the game chat with jibes about his lack of masculinity... that's really the only sensible way to deal with the situation. At least, it's how I always handle that kind of ungentlemanly behaviour.
Good Luck!

Oh man, that is just hilarious.
What possible advantage could cheating in this way bring to one player over the others?

Could throw your opponent if it was assassin (if your supposed multi deadbeated, not if you did)

Well possibly, but this game was standard sequential.
Edit: When a player is auto-kicked in an assassin game, the game continues and whomever had the deadbeat now has to kill the deadbeat's target.

The claim is that by creating new player accounts, and then letting them deadbeat you gain the advantage as you KNOW that they are not going to attack you, so you can take some huge advantage from that when planning what you are going to do.
What for the first three turns of the game??? Like that helps?
If a new players misses the first turn you can pretty much assume they are not going to show up at all anyway. So there is no possible advantage to it whatsoever.
Like someone would go to the trouble of making mutilple accounts and creating all these new players, just to let them deadbeat.

Exactly. So the now deadbeated target, who may well have been weak, is no longer the target, and the attacker has wasted his time and armies attacking the deadbeat only to now have to launch a renewed offensive against a stronger player.

Maybe, but you're assuming noone attacked the stronger player?
Also, you can't choose your target anyway. So even though it might help someone, the problem is that it doesn't neccesarily help you.

Yep. After all, no-one active will be targeting him.

Eh? The delay should help you (and indeed, everyone in the game but the person whose target changes) as it means you have more time to eliminate your target before someone else gets theirs.
This discussion is pretty irrelevant, anyway, I only mentioned it to play dvils advocate.

Yeah misunderstood that. Still, he will have to endure counter-attacks from the guy that's his target naturally.

Well, yeah. But the tactic really isn't that usefull, as the chance is also there you will have to kill the deadbeat instead of someone else. And I wouldn't consider it worth the 72 hour wait for the person to drop out. (standard sequential at least.)

I was in a few games where everyone deadbeated - But this was before you received the points from dead beats . so they were just dead games taking up space.

I guarantee I win.
I had a new player (multi) show up with both accounts in a Battle of Actium game not realizing how messed up that map would look to a new guy and not realizing we have 24 hour turns.
He swore up a storm with his main account at us for not playing and moved his multi. During this swearing he could have moved but never did and took off. Both accounts deadbeated after that.
I know this is true as I looked into it, and he never played on any other map.
Who joins the site with 2 accounts, decides Battle of Actium and then does that?

I think this is the crux of the problem with a lot of new players. They are joining an online game expecting it to be real time and not realising that they could actually have to wait anything up to five, or even 7 if its an eight person game, days before they get a turn. I am quite certain that these kind of guys are just looking for an instant gratification, shoot em up type game, and just haven't got the patience required for this. The one saving grace is they don't hang around for very long and only ruin, in the overall scheme of things, a handful of games compared to the amount actually played on here.

Well I know it is in the works to make this unignoreably clear for new sign ups and that if they join (pay) they can have 5 min turns.
Hope this is near the top of the to-do list.
