Just curious: In big games such as world 2.1 is the best strategy to pick one section and build up on it or slowly spread your armies around the world and try to win that way.

1st one. if you slowly spread around while all the other people get continents, you will soon find a 25 on you doorstep. then you'll be dead.

It also depends on the cards-format though.

In Escalating you need 'reach' to be able to hunt down and kill people for their cards. That means maintaining a global presence whenever possible.

Also with Escalating the card value quickly becomes more valuable than any continent bonus, so there's less focus on grabbing and holding continents at all cost.

Of course with so many territories and so many continent bonuses, this applis the LEAST to World 2.1... Likely you would need some (small) continent bonuses early on to sustain your presence throughout the map.

I've only played this map ONCE in a flat rate and COMPLETELY hated it.. I did win it in the end but it took forever and then some. I'm never doing that again in flat rate, but may one day give it a shot again in an 8 player - freestyle -escalating..

Basically don't spread yourself too thin and try to never be the path of least resistance.

In a game with an escalating cards bonus the tactics change drastically because once the card values climb in numbers it becomes easier to conquer vast territories and on the smaller maps the game can certainly come to a quick finish. Of course in all card games you need to maintain enough strength to aquire a card every turn and keep pace with the opposition. You don't necessarily have to get a card on your first turn, but from that point on it's pretty much required to be competitive. There are a variety of strategies employed with cards, including missed turns to avoid cashing in a set when holding five and not conquering a territory to remain at four cards while holding a set if you don't need the extra armies (yet).

If you can manage to build up in two regions of the map, do it, if you can hold both it's totally worth it. If you see that it won't work, though, don't go for it.

I do recommend not playing World 2.1 with no cards or adjacent (especially not both) unless you are a paid account. I don't really like that for World 2.1 anyway because it's often obvious 10 to 12 rounds before the game can finally end who will win.

don't play one map and then just stick with it, experiment with all the different maps and find the one or more that you like the most. Even then, play a variety of maps and settings.
