for a site that has only been open for 2 years and certainly didnt have as many users in the first year, it would likely be impossible to estimate. especially since you cant really tell the ammount of money that may go into servers advertising, lawyers, and many other things that must be paid for, i would imagine lack has a hefty bill from his hosting company.

I calculated them, with a calculator.

1) How do you estimate this?

2) What do you mean by "from premiums alone"? Freemiums are hardly going to generate any revenue for lack are they???

3) If your projections are accurate lack is not making much money from the site when you take expenses into consideration.

4) Frankly I think lack's revenues are none of our business and he deserves every cent he earns, and much more :D

Number of premiums multiplied by $20.

not counting CC merchandise.

3) If your projections are accurate lack is not making much money from the site when you take expenses into consideration.

you may be right, depending on expenses.

4) Frankly I think lack's revenues are none of our business and he deserves every cent he earns, and much more :D

Your opinion, although there is something to be said for transparency.

unfortunately it is impossible to count the ammount of premiums that are paid for, since premiums are sometimes offered for free by lack for some deserving folks, and because of the referral system anybody that makes a referal gets a free month of premium, and im sure there are alot of freemiums that have gotten their buddies in here to get a lil bit of extra time.

Maybe you missed the "Shop" Tab at the top of the screen. That brings in revenue also. Thats why you don't run a business, and should stop talking. The only thing I agree with is that it isn't any of our business.

How did you work out the number of premiums? Please don't tell me you went through every page on the scoreboard and counted

And you say that there is something to be said for transparency, however I don't see that that is applicable in this case. We are not shareholders in CC, we're customers and being happy that the site is running well and feeling like we're getting good value for what we pay is what's important. If you buy food at your local corner store, that doesn't give you the right to know what the proprietor is earning does it?

That seems a little harsh mate... :?

Just forgot about the shop as I've never used it, that hardly renders my opinions worthless... FYI my job involves analysing financial information for a wide variety of businesses everyday

true, however there are many people who have invested time and effort into the betterment of this site who may be interested in the metrics of it's success.

your corner store analogy does not line up, unless you stock the shelves there in your free time.

I have to agree that lack's income is really no one's business. People buy premium membership on their own accord - there's no gun stuck to anyone's head to join...
The recent increase in membership charges is another thing altogether, as I somehow doubt that it was completely without additional profits playing some part in the decision... but hell... it's only $25!
I mean, where else can you pay so little and get such a high level of frustration! lol

I'm surprised this is still open.

You know there is a more clever way to figure out the exact amount, but I'm not going to share it because trying to figure out how much money the site generates is both immoral and unethical.

Why is that? I don't see anything wrong with some idle speculation. It's not like people are trying to get their hands on lack's tax returns.

i doubt lack is the type to lock it.

if you think about it one way, there are people earning millions who contribute in an entirely negative way to society, so the profit margin of this place is neither here nor there. id expect lack makes a fair buck off of it but taken in context its really not a moral issue. everyone knows the mods and cartos dont go unrewarded anyway, and the site is well run and has had lots of time invested in it - no real cause for complaint in regards to the estimated scale of the figure, surely?

Speculation on income is pretty normal. Everyone just assumes that someone running a business is just raking it in.

The one thing people don't think about is the costs. As a former director from an ISP, let me tell you that bandwidth costs, co-location costs, and other costs associated with maintaining any online service are very high. Not to mention that this is now Lack's sole source of income...gots to pay yourself, too.

When CC goes public or when you (the royal you, not Incan) actually assume risk of ownership is when you can get the official numbers. Until then, speculate away, all.

I feel like my premium is money well spent. Not everyone would agree and nor do they have to. If Lack is just rolling in the cash from site income, bully for him! I somehow suspect it's not the case, though.
