Im gonna have to go with my friend alstergren. Not because he has the best score, but because in every game i play with him he comes up with the most amazing strategies. He definately deserves to be the best. :D

Ak

Yes u r quite rite ak he does have very amazing stratagies. But i have 2 go with my budyy pilat.Pilate and i have played like 5 triples games together and we havent lost yet. Its all bcuz of his awseome srategy and play. Like today in a triples game it was down to him and another player, Pilate only had Australia and most of asia. The other player owned the rest of the world. And the next turn pilate killed him. The cash in was not all that great. It was just about his timing and the way he played him.

He's been keeping a low profile for a while, but brunnings should be on this list. You youngsters won't remember this, but he ruled the scoreboard for a long time before going away.

Hmmm.... Well. Dunno here. To be honest, I'd rather be lucky than skilled. When it comes down to it, it's hard to use skill to counter things like a good starting-position and a friendly dice... I don't really think I should be in this poll. I have some slick strategies for quite a few of the maps but my skills are (besides some good map knowledge) limited to double/triple dames with no cards. I prefer those games since a 4 player/double/no card games is the purest form of risk. Basically, what you have then are numbers. You deal with statistical odds and pure strategy. Other games, well, then you have the random element of cards and random elements of individual players making "bad" moves and the possibility of alliances. However, there are of course a shitload of skill involved in those aspects as well. So, I would say that the most skillful player is one that masters all aspects, all settings and all maps to the highest degree.

I voted #U, if I could vote twice, I think I'd vote Belzbub the second time, but I've never played him, so had to go with #U.

I would have to see a list of members where at least 75% of the games played were SINGLES.

I really don't think Team Play can accurately signify who is a Great Player. It MAY show who is a good Team Player.

That top 12 List did, however, have at least a Few Players that I feel are very good at the game.

Nope. That's just a very narrow view. Standard/double/triple are all setting as well as no card/flat rate/escalating cards as well as the various maps. There are different sorts of strategies involved in those various settings and all those settings need different skills and experience.

However, as I understand it you deem that the only risk like game worth playing is the one played at your family's house when you were a kid. But well, I'm sure you have noticed this but CC isn't exactly modeled after your family gatherings... *sigh*

Do you really think this? I dont think is the purest, since you have a partner. An you can win even if you are stupid, only following orders from your partner. kill an opponent is easier, hold a continent is easier, how can it be the purest form? Anyway, whats the problem with random cards, guy? The dice are random, too. If you dislike random things, how about chess?

I find it the purest since it's a clear game board. Two opponents to wipe out that only will attack you and your partner. Sure, the dice is random, but you can make your attacks set up ypur defenses in accordance to statistical rules. Sure, cards works according to odds as well. But playing no card only leaves the dice as a random element. You only have to worry about taking/holding areas and continents and you don't have to worry about your opponents three first cards being of different colors. But that's just my opinion. Of course, the most old school would be classic map, standard game, six players flat card. But as I wrote, I like to strip the game down to just being about numbers as far as possible (here of course, Diplomacy is as pure as it gets in this aspect).

alstergren: do you constantly reiterate defence of your gameplay in your sleep?

And...., I've never played RISK at home with family. I started playing in college and since them have played many games at various houses I have owned or rented or at others abodes.

Patroclus: why do you constantly knock team play and try to put people down that play it?
