Hello, How different is CC?

I've played Risk for longer than I can remember, also I love Axis&Allies which if you haven't played is basically a hard-core and much more in-depth version of Risk set in World War II. I have the basics of Risk down and know most of the intricacies of the game.

Upon being yelled at by several people though at the statement that CC is basically Risk online I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice to a new CC player as to some CC specific strategies of philosophies of play.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

first up team games. much different startegy required. and then i guess... starting with 3 everywhere and not being able to choose deployment. makes for a more skilled game on the whole

The quote is comfort, like 'One thing the couch does is comfort'(implied direct object)

It's grammatically correct I'm pretty sure, though I forget which general said it, so I doubt I can write him a letter to be sure since he is most likely dead. This is the irony.

I've posted in the mentor thread, thanks for the quick reply. I was just wondering if there were any simple differences. I suppose not
:)

There are no wildcards. There is an optional Fog Of War where you can only see armies that are adjacent to your own.

Check instructions for more.

-no secret alliances.
-real alliances that are announced and public are ok, but many people still dont like it and will attack you just for suggesting it in the game chat.
-examine each map carefully, look for all the choke points and extra features on each map so you can avoid problems and have an easy win.

probably the biggest suggestion is just to EXPERIMENT. try out all the different game types, and many different maps, so you can get a better feel for what games are like around here. eventually you will find what you like, dont like, and just plain hate. then you will know more about each type of game and what to choose from.

Thanks, about secret alliances though, is that a rule? Would I get banned for PMing someone in a free for all and suggesting we team up on someone? Isn't that a tad harsh?

Red Flag for the Grammar Nazis!

That is not grammatically correct. The direct object has nothing to do with it; it is "comforts" because "nothing" is the subject. The subject determines how a verb is conjugated, not the direct object (in English and in most languages). The reason why it is "comfort" in your second quote is because it is actually a noun in this case, as it is being equated to the word "thing." I forget what that term is called... Oh well, I think I've covered everything.

well, if its a secret, you can get banned, or at least blocked from playing with the guy you allied with. if you announce it, everything is ok.

Rules page [click here]

site rules wrote:Rule #2: No secret alliances

Any form of collusion between opponents must be announced beforehand in the game chat, in English or in a language all players understand. Secret alliances can be hard to prove, but if you suspect one you should leave the players in question negative feedback. If the players have a history of suspected secret alliances consider reporting it following the instructions at the top of the Cheating & Abuse Reports forum.

Basically, you CAN discuss it in private before hand [at least i have heard it explained as that by other players a while back], as long as you fully announce it in a language or way that all of the other players can understand before the alliance/deal actually comes into effect.

I suggest just dont go for alliances. the chat is too limited in here to work out a reasonable deal with ease, and its very difficult to determine if one of your opponents is telling the truth or just allying with you because you will weaken yourself and he can kill you.

Ouch that's harsh. Seems like something that's hard to prove and is something that would be a big issue around here. I'll try to avoid doing it, but sometimes mutual benefits just seem to happen.

As for the grammar about my quote. I'm an engineering student so I try to avoid intricacies of the English language at all costs. I do my best to be professional but I feel more comfortable with rotation matrices than I do with direct objects.

If you're new to the site but familiar with the borad-game Risk, stick to the Classic map for a while until you get the familiar with the GUI. Try otu different gametypes on the Classic map. See what you like better: No cards, flat rate, or escalating. Discover whether you prefer unlimited forts, chained, or adjacent. When you get a better idea down of what gameplay you prefer, start venturing out into other maps. Keep it simple at first, because some maps have complicated set-ups and XML features that can confuse somebody not expecting them.

From there its up to you. I'd say once you get really comfortable on many of the other maps, try venturing out of your niche gameplay. For the longest time I basically stuck to flat rate/unlimited games, but now I'm branching off into escalating games a bit more.
