any strategies for Bamboo Jack, Pearl harbor or Actium???

Postby PLAYER57832 on Tue Nov 20, 2007 10:47 am

I have been trying to play the more complicated boards, but I keep losing. Any strategy suggestions .. especially for 2 and 3 player games?

Try again?

That's always done the trick for me.

Those maps are quite difficult to step up to. Personally I avoid that Bamboo Jack one like the plague...

If your having trouble with them, perhaps try a more complex map but one that's not as hard as those like Age of Merchants or something like that until you feel comfortable with a more complicated bonus system, then try those again.

Yeah, if you have trouble understanding them don't play it. You will lose points trying

pah - would you give this advice to a small child learning to read? - give up! - ridiculous - just take your time and study the maps a little more - surely it's more fun figuring out new maps and how to win on them rather than just play another 100 Classic games? - that's the case for me anyway

thanks to all. I agree with benjikat. I like new boards and new strategies. the challenge/fun is more important than points, but those are just giving me a harder time than the others ... I do think the key is time, though.

Thanks all .. : )

What would you say is a good 'medium' level complicated board to start with?

I especially don't like boards with a gazillion of territories.

So I guess D-Day or something?

I would start with Merchant, but I am not that familiarwith D-day. Bottom line, read the legend. As for the rest .. if I knew i would not have started this thread .. : )

I don't think AoM would work as a medium level. It's complicated, but with a completely different bonus system, what with markets and resource pairs and such. Actium, Bamboo Jack and Pearl Harbor all use the standard bonus-for-continent style.

Some of those maps give me a headache just looking at them. Right now they're just not for me.
