2 games played, 2 games lost

In one, the person did the "Dump all on one country and go on a rampage" strategy, taking couyntries and guarding his borders well. In the second, I went a little overboard with my attacks, after trading in some cards and gaining 20 armies.

But hey, I'm new here. And this is the first time I had a chance to play Rusk with others. I'm sure I'll improve with time.

Isn't that basically the strategy everyone uses?

Well, I go on a more defensive strategy.

The outer layer gets the majority of my armies, but the second layer, which would be attacked if they broke through, gets 2 armies each. I try to split the armies evenly around that outer layer.

When I attack, i do it if there's little to no risk of the country I'm attacking from being taken bythe surrounding countries if I happen to lose a buncj of armies.

wow you are never ganna win like that..... sorry but that strategy is flawed. you need to take risks to win "RISK" hense the name, try to pertend that you are one of your enemies, what would you do? use that info to influence your own decision. if you see red going all out on blue trying to get oceana and you see red has a country on your border you can be preiity confident he wont be attacking you there thus, reduce inforcemnts there use em where green is building a force.

what im trying to say is there is no "strategy" to the game... just many strategies, use what others are doing to put yourself in a better position. try to think a few turnes ahead as if you were your opponent. and plan acordingly. and as always.... and possibly my predominant "strategy"(if you wish to call it one) is to take anyone out that you can. even if it means leaving yourself open for half a turn.

the one thing about this is that you should keep an eye on what turn it is. try to think back (does he have cards) cuz ulatmetly, thats what you are after.

anywaise enough of my rambiling.

these games are barely over 10 rounds, so stuff happens pretty fast. If you keep doing big things every turn than you are gonna do pretty good :D

First time I've seen someone with shit typing actually come off as smart. Brilliant.

Two out of two losses is fair. To be geniunely bad you have to lose more than three out of every four games.

Yes, I've got to say that that is rather brilliant.

Imagining what you would do if you were your opponent is a crucial part to Risk, especially in your first turn. If you were blue, where would you go? If you were pink, which continent would you be leaning towards? That's how you can tell who is the luckiest, and therefore, the leader of the game, which you can use to perhaps persuade your other opponents to attack.

Eliminating a weak player is also crucial to the game, as you can take their cards and even hand in a few sets in a row to take the upper hand against your other opponents, which could mean either taking over a continent, puncturing someone else's continent, or even eliminate a second opponent to take over their cards.

And, a word about cards: If you have a set, that doesn't necessarily mean you should play it. Look at what everybody else has. Are they going to hand in sets soon too? Should you wait a bit, and then play your set (assuming you're playing with escalating)? Could you, perhaps, take over a territory that is part of your set so that you could get the 2 army bonus next turn? Or should you hand it in immediately so you can eliminate the weaker player? Generally, you should NEVER hand in a set to defend yourself, unless you're about to be eliminated. Since it's escalating, your opponent may be waiting with a set of their own, and then penetrate your continent with the added advantage.

So...yeah. I probably wrote down a lot of my strategies here...but, actually, they are pretty general. Just stick to what you think is right, defend your continent at all costs, and...hope that you get really really really lucky. Luck tends to predominate Risk a lot...

I'll say it does. Attacked Southern europe from 2 diffrent countries, and lost 4 armies to their 1.

And the set I traded in on the USA game was forced onto me for the simple reason I had 5 cards

thanks guys, yeah sorry bout the crappy typing. i am a shitty speller. and my key board likes duble typing. so combined it causes issues....

hope it was of some help though
oh and ide like to add that if you are on a roll... dont stop. (usualy) i dont mean spread yourself thin.. i mean if you take out a weak player get a some cards enough to take out another player, drop the reinforcemts in a country that is near his and take him out, use his cards to move on to the next strongest. ive won a majority of my games in this fastion.

one last tid bit about large armies on a final roll through, if you think it will be close, or even if you just wanna add a lil more to your side on the luck balance, use your smaller armies to weaken your oponents( take special care not to take their country with your small army unless you can still get through with your larger one) with this method you retain the large armies strength longer.

Hi, spreading yourself is a bad strategy for this game. The way to win is concentrate your troops close to the weakest player around rounds 7, 8. If this is a 5 player game, everyone would have traded in at least once and the next trade in would be at least 15. If you've prepared properly this round you should be able to knock off the weakest player, trade in his cards to knock of the next weakest player and so on. Usually the player who captures the opportunity goes on a rampage and takes everyone else out in 1 turn. Therefore, this strategy dictates that you do not trade in a second time too early because your second trade in has to be a death blow. Count your troops and count how many other people will get. Don't severely weaken people without taking them out, because others will take them out. Always make sure you have access to a weak player's last country. Sometimes you may wish to protect a weak player to ensure that the meal will be yours.

hahaha

go to the Conquer Club store and buy your WWOD wristband. and every single time you are faced with a difficult decision, look at your wrist, and repeat the winners mantra:

WHAT WOULD OWENSHOOTER DO

and then act accordingly.-0

I lost my first 13 games here at conquerclub. If your strategy doesn't work, just don't be afraid to try something else.
