Age of Merchants:Map question

Okay, for starters, I really think this is a cool map. Talk about a unique map, and gameplay!

On to the question...

When dealing with the idea of foreign markets, the rules require a Port to qualify.

I learned this thru experimentation, when I took the Market in Colata, and I own the dock next door. (One of the little islands in the middle.)

Curiously enough, it took an extra turn for me to realize, apparently that market has no value what so ever.

Is that correct? Or am I missing something...

The market has value...if you are trying to just hold the markets on your country, if you have a resource pair and the local market you get +1, if you have the resource pair, a couple of ports and the foreign market you get another + 1

Not strictly true - the "foreign" bonus (for a resource pair, a foreign market and a port for each - i.e. a total of 5 territories) gives +2. Also you do not need to have the local market in order to get the foreign bonus.

The markets are the key to success...

If you can hold a market and 2 resources locally you get +1...

If you can get 2 linking ports and another market you get another +2...

If you then hold the resources on that island you get another +3...

You can see how the bonuses escalate if you can keep growing...

But there is no port on that island. How can it ever be a foreign market?

Colato is actually a collection of 4 Islands. The territories include:

Puerto Tranquillo - Port
Gringo - Resource

Colato - Market
Prisonero
Fort Hope - dock

Puerto Modesto - Port
Dorata - Factory
Pirate Cove - special

Pampas - dock
Rompas - Resource

stuff

AA to the rescue once again... I got so wrapped up in the actual geography, that I didn't consider the 'area' as a whole.

You da man AA! Thanks again, for lifting the fog-o-war from my eyes!

look at the edge of each island/continent and youll find the 4 islands are the same color
