Fog of war game and making a truce question.

I'm in my first fog of war game and I love it even though I'm not doing great I think??? Thats why I like the fog. It's world 2.1 version, in the first turn made a truce in game chat for all to see which was accepted, and we mentioned which two countries the truce was between. I'm several turns later and ready to start another truce, I've looked back and realized when making the first truce stating the countries let other players know where we where working from outwards, so both of us got pounded from the other sides.
Now my question is, with a fog version game, how should making a truce playing this version be done to make it fair??? The official rules here say no secret truce's, but then again I made one in public, and it hurt us both because we couldn't use the fog idea to our advantage. All the other other aspects of the game are hidden from other players, so should truce's be as well? My next truce I want to offer, I dont want to say the border, just hint at where we make the truce.
Sorry for the long post but curious on what you hard core players think about it?

I was just thinking of how to make it fair after I did my previous post. If there was a way to make a truce without every one seeing, then once a truce is agreed too, one of the players shows it on game chat as: "Red player and Teal player have made a 3 turn truce between * and *"

I think what you need to do is only make truces that are more valuable then the potential downside.
Might sound hard to do, but it's better then cheating...

You're suggesting making a secret alliance, and then publishing only that such an alliance exists. The purpose of making the game chat public is to stop that from happening. If it is necessary at all, the best way to do it is to offer a truce without saying where it is. For example "Hey Red, don't attack me and I won't attack you, you know where I mean."
All the other players are right to attack you. If you don't have to waste troops defending one border, then you have more to use, so they should cut you down. Especially when you tell them where you're going to be.

It's not about making the desion of a truce, it's how to do it in a fair manner for a fog of war version. The fog of war hides everything, so should truces be hidden as well?

Thanks bald, that was the idea I had. Just that in non fog versions when you make an alliance every one see's it.

Truces and alliances always get other players nervous, except when it's some smaller players making a deal to help fend off a big guy. Making a first-turn truce is just asking to get pummeled in almost any game, because all the players who aren't part of the alliance will see it as a threat.

The only fair way to make a truce is in the game chat and accept the consequences good and bad of whatever happens next. Playing in the fog doesn't really alter that and it would seem that eventually you would both benefit regardless of what other players do. It is very likely that any pounding you take might have occurred anyway if you are up against aggressive players.
