disappearing games...?

at least twice now I've started a speed game, waited for it to fill up, only to have it disappear. It's no longer in my active or waiting for players list.
In neither case did I drop it, and in one case there were two other players waiting for it to start.
What gives? Do speed games "expire" after a bit, if not enough players join?
