One word: don't.

That is, unless you're prepared to have your game last months and months and months and months.

That's generally what keeps me out of them, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to play a few.

I'd just like them to be idiot free. At least in escalating games you only need suffer idiots for a few rounds then you get to move on.

I recommend playing 4p no card games. I started two 6p and I regretted bitterly. (I am still crying )

What is it that makes 4p superior to 6p?

Much easier to finish. I haven't played enough, but it seems that 4p no cards game lasts few to several weeks, while 6p lasts few to several months.

I actually don't mind No Cards games. The only problem is the tendency to have them turn into build games. The trick to avoid that is to get aggressive early. But not too aggressive that you become really weak. But it's really hard to find that balance.

I'm in one that was started by my grandfather before I was born.

But I think I have a shot winning it before the decade is out!!

My other great hobby is paint-drying contests. Wow, man. :)

EVER getting caught in a no-cards quagmire is enough to make you stick to Escalating 6 player assassination games on Doodle Earth for the rest of your life.

And No-Cards & Adjacent games is just beyond cruel. I think no-cards games should actually only be allowed in combination with Terminator- or Assassination mode, preferably with Unlimited fortifications, otherwise just nothing happens, ever.

More opportunity to group armies together, making for a more imbalanced board, leading to more slaughter.

(Just guessing)

I'm definitely losing interest in no cards games. I think I'll stick with escalating.

Controlling lots of countries is vital in no cards. If you have a cont sometimes the best thing to do is just place your armies on the borders

nahh they r not that bad....

less aggressive.... try and hold a continent .... when u go for a kill ... dont finish it in 1 round !

I usually only play no cards games. Either that, or standard reward cards games. I find them to be a lot more interesting then games with cards. requires some forethought, and planning. However, like any risk game, it can backfire. However, I find it easier to jump back with no cards then it is with cards.

In any game type for no cards the trick is to have the biggest army build and a lot of patience. If you have 2 more armies per turn, eventually you'll have more armies than the rest of your opponents.

If someone is weak, make sure you take the opportunity to eliminate them, otherwise they may well build up and come back out of nowhere.

Also, maps with many small bonuses are good. I recommend Siege! especially.

But yes... playing no cards is a difficult art form to master not appreciated by the 10 round esc players. :)

I agree, it's an art form not easily mastered. But you know what? It's also very fun when you sort of get a hang for it. You're right, it requires patience.

Speaking of 6-player no cards:

I would think the idea in no-cards would be to build only and not attack when you are in the lead and gaining armies faster than everyone else.

It would then make sense for everyone else to nibble away at the leader to keep him in check.

At some point, a favorable dice run will allow someone to gain territory and the lead will change.

More likely someone will get tired of it early and get aggressive and it will change to a five or four player game.

I suppose also someone will lock into oz and sit and build on siam like a fat zit waiting to pop.

Then the tipping point comes about when one player is collecting as many armies per turn as the rest of the board together.

At that point only an angry dice god can change the outcome.

But again, I've only played two six player no-cards game, so you tell me.

The nibble attack:

"hmmm...let's see here...blue's swelling too large there and I think I need to roll once against him to knock him back a peg."

-6-6-5- -4-3-

"Oh man . . . that worked. I can afford a second shot."

-2-2-1- -1-1-

"Oh yes!"

-end turn-

I like to run a few No Cards games for a different challenge but too many would put my head away! Escalating needs to be the predominant game type imo

If anyone wants to test theories on no cards games, give me a shout. I'll always be up for a good no cards game any day.

I'm currently in my first no-cards game that's proceeding at a tolerable pace.

Courtesy to the Freestyle - Terminator format, and the good fortune of not having deadbeaters.

I guess the Terminator format also means that you gotta leave some guys spread out a bit, rather than all piling them on a big heap in a continent you own and slowly extend from there.

i prefer no card team games. teams rely more on strategy, and if a mistake is made, the other team can't sit back and pray for a mixed set (escalating is just not even on my radar, don't see the fun in that at all). anyway, alot of teams tend to overpass in no card games, going for big armies, and it is either feast or famine. i find some of my best opponents and craftiest players in team no card games. when i get my ass kicked, i like to know that the other team out thought me and caught some good breaks vs. the other team got 3 mixed sets in a row and levelled us. as far as 6 player team games, i love that on the world map, it is just a blast and generally goes fast. there, i tossed in my thoughts on the subject.. next!-0

p.s.-that is what is cool about CC, you can find the type of game that you enjoy the most and seem to have a better grasp of, and find other players that enjoy the same.
