Mod squad changes and additions

Mornin all.

Sooooo, the mod squad isn't always the most popular group of people around I hear - and sometimes they just aren't around....

Well, first off, go a bit easier on 'em. My number one rule of moding has always been, always will be and forever should be
You are first and always a community member, second a player, and distant third, a moderator.

These guys are here to have fun just as much as you are. They volunteer their time to try to keep the site running but at the end of the day, they are just the same as everyone else here.

Secondly, I'm going to be trying to get back to our roots in the mod squad. We started as a hands off group and I'd like to get back to that...but I need your help to do it - we can't be hands off unless people generally stop feeding the trolls, stop jumping on newbies and stop spamming.

Lastly, I'm going to be beefing up the whole team a fair bit. Expect new mods, new support staff, entire new departments (like a translation staff and a few special projects) so you should see a lot more eyes in a lot more places doing a lot more things (other than locking hopefully)
As they say though - don't contact us, we'll contact you. There is no quicker way to disqualify yourself than by PMing me "I will mod, I like power" or something to the effect of "pick me, pick me"
If you think someone around the forum would be good, drop me a line and explain why, give examples (links are good) and don't brown nose - it wont get your friend anywhere :)

If you ever have any problems with any of the staff, including myself or Lack (although, everyone should love Lack), don't hesitate to get in touch with me, that's what I'm here for and it stays between you and me.

Alright folks, that's it for now. Hopefully we can shake things up a bit here, make it a better place to be with new faces coming in and staying longer than they do now.

Have a good one, may your days be Conquery

I was just about to pm you too...

Hopefully, with new mods, things can get cleaned up a bit here in the forums

this sounds good and hopefully we'll get a cleaner place around here with less spamming less cursing and generally more common sense and decency.

i don't think new mods are needed we just need slightly stricter rules.

the site is increasing day by day and it's a guarantee that along good people jerks will also join. i'd like to see more banning locking of threads and deletion of posts. of course all done with moderation because nobody wants to turn the forum into a nazi concentration camp.

although i wouldn't mind seeing wicked dressed in black leather with a whip

sorry Ms Kitten, no such luck. All mods will stay unless they choose to step down. I don't particularly like "firing" volunteers :)

And DiM, there will be, if anything fewer (but perhaps more targeted) locks and bans and no, none, ever, deletions if I have my way (you'll find my reasoning on deletions at lease here which discusses the thread here warning, that second link is definitely not for those who dont like the flame wars section, especially towards the end ahh the good old days.)

If anything, you will see (or wont probably) a lot more PM's going out to people discussing things in private and a lot more attempting to reason with people. Locking ain't my style, but I'm not afraid to use it if I need to.

i'm not for deleting or locking unless necessary. the problem is that people abuse the internet to vent of their frustrations in real life and the victims of their abuse have no fault. if those people are being warned/banned and their posts deleted then they'll probably think twice before doing it again. however if they abuse and escape unpunished they will surely do it again.

ofcourse before any drastic measure is taken a kind word in a pm can't hurt and sometimes it can do wonders. if mods will find the time to do this and spread the kind word then most of the problems will be solved.

in a perfect forum a mod should be invisible.

i dunno about the deleting, lack deleted a thread for me once, for a very good reason...

and as for the mod thing, i'm not even going to bother...i know that they should be gone, but there's not really much us as a general public can do about that, now can we?

Good luck with your efforts. On the subject of deleting I was surprised yesterday that a thread created by a multi pretending to be me was deleted. I am aware he (rebelman_)was busted but I never realised threads created by busted multis get deleted.

Interesting. Somehow I'm doubtful. We don't need even more mods. And a question:
Who mods the moderators?

iliad are you stalking me around forums today ? I'm flattered but I don't think I'm your type.

Sorry for straying off topic to hunt the lost puppy that's following me on my walk home.

Ehh no. Just because I disagree with you on the topic of Flame wars
Dude this isn't your site and I don't give a shit about you

Mods are moderators, and apparently don't need anyone to mod them 'cause, you know, they're just part of the community as well.

But sometimes mods(not naming any names here) abuse their power and are
more than trigger happy

I was being sarcastic  If they were just members of the community, they wouldn't be mods, but as they are mods, they just aren't members of the community, they're fucking "above us".

Threads created by multis aren't deleted per se.... multiple threads of crap posted by trolls are usually locked or deleted as they were only posted to create chaos, something we try to avoid unless it's a Battle Royale!

And to answer your question Iliad, Twill mods us and attempts to keep us sane. (yes with me it's already a lost cause, but he still tries)

Question about the whole nominations malarkey. Can you nominate people for specific forums? (thinking especially of tournaments and map foundry)

I believe that is the case, however, you have to do it via PM. I think the idea is for Twill to try and get an understanding of who people think would be best in specific roles, be that as overall Moderators, or in more specific capacities such as Coleman and cairnswk in the Foundry.

Only forum I think I might do something in is forum games, and that'd only be for mafia games and such.

I know I saw that. That's why I didn't send a pm. I'm just saying. The mods can ignore the post if they wish. Also I wouldn't of said anything if I misunderstood what exile said. I thought he was saying something to the extent of to mod him, but I read that wrong.
