how to stop people attacking me when i'm leading

Postby bob72 on Thu Sep 27, 2007 8:23 am

When other players lead they usually only get attacked by me. but when I am leading everyone attacks me and they don't stop until I'm defeated even though this usually means that they allow someone else to win.

Has anyone else noticed blind play like this.

I've been in several games and taken a commanding lead (as i'm good at the game) and been attacked (naturally) by my opponents.

However they don't stop when the playing field has been levelled and despite handing the game to others continue to attack me.

Anyone else feeling victimised ingame. Lucky for me I've got a year's subscription because at the moment I don't feel like playing against either secret alliances or protectionist players.

If your so good at this game, maybe you would change your strategy then. Becoming the strongest doesn't mean your good at this game, its who wins that matters. Fact 1: You are a a corporal, you are NOT good at this game. Becoming too strong too quickly is not a good strategy, FYI.

bob72 has a point. i too have been in games where i had let's say 10 armies more than the others and they all started attacking me. that's natural. ganging on the strongest is ok. what's not ok is when the situation turns from me having 50 armies and the others 40 to me having 20 armies and the others 50 and still attacking me even if another guy went in the lead with 60-70 troops.

i saw players that kept attacking a single guy because he was the leader at some point and ignore the fact that somebody else sits back and builds troops and gets a huge lead. this is bad.

Happens, because its natural to attack the strongest person in the game because that gives them a chance to win. However even after leveling the playing field some people still attack you because they perceive you as a threat. That is, if you are allowed to get away, you might get stronger again and maybe win the game the next time.

To avoid it, you can either, not become the strongest or if you do, mask your strength with the help of propaganda, make someone else look strong. However, don't make it so obvious that it can be seen by a mile. How you do it is upto you ;)

when im in the lead, i play very passively, and dont attack others much, it keeps you out of their mind. your probably trying to expand your borders faster than you should.... try slowing down your rate of expansion, even if your lookin like your in "second" just play it safe and unagressive.

i agree to an extent. let's say you me and bob72 play a game. at some point i have 50 troops and bonus 8 you and bod have 35 troops and bonus 3.

i'm in a clear advantage so you two decide to attack me. a very normal thing to do.

after a few rounds i'm down to 30 armies and bonus 3 you have 45 and bonus 5 and bob72 has 60 and bonus 10. what do you do?
A: keep attacking me thus giving the win to bob?
B: turn your attention on bob since he's the new leader?

if you chose A then you'll most likely end up on people's ignore lists and get negative feedback.
if you chose B you can still turn the game and win.

I didn't say that is what I think. It is what those people, who bob72 has played which gave arise to this situation, think...probably.

Pointing it out in the gamechat in a friendly way usually does the trick.

Playing escalating is better - sit back for the first few rounds and then strike hard - once you are leading in escalating you can very often finish it in a couple of rounds.

I'm just not that good at flat rate cos I find it so hard to keep concentrating and playing slowly - just takes patience. Really, you should probably sit tight on a small bonus until someone else threatens to win or you can attack everyone without them cutting you back down to size too quickly

Break everyone's bonus when your strong so they don't ever have the chance to hit you.

This is another bad strategy that no one else has mentioned in this thread. If you're going to attack the leader, bring someone along with you. What you are doing is paying the full cost in a volunteer's dilemma (look it up), and allowing everyone to benefit. What you should do is sit back and let someone else attack the leader, and help out when it won't cost much. If you can't fathom ever doing this, then use the game chat to convince others to help you attack the leader.

Simple solution here too: don't take a lead until you can make it a commanding lead. Then the others can't stop you unless they all band together and fight, which usually won't happen because they have vendettas from fighting each other all game. Even if this means just hanging out in Australia all game while everyone else fights over Africa, SA and NA, you can build your forces until you have enough to wipe them out.

I log in to a game and look for 3 things.

#1 Who is the weakest to the strongest.(hopefully it is not me!!!)

#2 Who of the weakest has enough cards to make a new set.

#3 can I take them out or block someone else from doing it.
