Doubles or Triples Game Time Limits - A Strategy or a Flaw?

Postby Armored-Blue on Sun Sep 23, 2007 1:40 am

Alright, I believe I have played enough games to understand CC pretty well, and I want to see a change. In doubles or Triples games when there are only two teams, there can and are timing issues in freestyle as follows: Team 1 moves first in round 1, finishes, and then team 2 takes their turn. On the following round, team 1 waits 23 hours, takes their turn, and team 2 may now play, but here is the catch, they have only 1 hour to play!
I have not been a victim of this, but in a game I am playing, because the time that my partner and I had arranged to play was so long after our turn had begun, our opponents had only 5 hours to take a turn, which was from 2 until 7 on Sunday morning. This in my opinion makes it very hard for them to play their turn, even though it was not at all intentional. For me the idea behind a freestyle game was to allow people to move quickly through the game, and to allow claiming continents in RT without them being broken, not to screw someone over by giving then 5 minutes to play... So my question is this, in a two team freestyle game, should the team that starts 2nd have only the remaining time, or the full 24 hours?

I understand the difficulty with changing the system and frankly I wouldn't want to build some sort of block that doesn't allow a person to gain their continent in rt, it is just the idea of forcing someone to play at exactly 23 hours and 55 minutes after the round starts that gets me... So this is my proposal:

Add the time lost from the blocked player back to him when his turn is available

Let's say there are 3 players: Player 1, 2, and 3, have each taken their turn in that order so player 3 must wait until 1 or 2 starts. Whatever time it takes for 1 and 2 to start their turn should be added to the available time for player 3, but not to the other remaining players. Thus when there are only two players remaining, if player 1 takes 23 hours to start his turn, then player two gain those hours back, but if that other player is dead beating and it only took player 1 one extra hour to play, then he doesn't have to wait the full twenty four hours...
This would only lengthen games a little bit in most cases but would solve the problem of people giving people only 5 minutes to play a turn in a two player or two team freestyle game!

What does everyone else think of this idea? (Or is it totally unclear?)

just dont play free style. I found that only sissies who need an edge to beat their opponents play that game type. Save yourself the trouble and the profanities and play in a game where there are cheats

While I understand your position, I think that many people would simply prefer to think of freestyle as a time saver, not a way to cheat the system, and my goal is to improve the system. So instead of giving up or finding another game type to play I would rather make freestyle more player friendly without jeopardizing most of the strategies people use.

If you protected the 2nd team to play from not missing a turn due to to team 1's "clock management" I wouldnt mind free style but i refuse to step into that trap again
