Ajax enabling question

I don't fully understand what benefit there is to enabling 'Ajax' in the settings.
Does it mean that the log (and map) will automatically update immediately when a player does something, without the need to click 'refresh'?
But if so, why is the refresh link still there? Should I keep clicking it like I do now?

Basically how AJAX is working is. Once you attack, fortify etc The game will refresh only the parts of page that need updated rather than updating the page as a whole. This makes game play faster and smoother. There is also now an automatic refresh function which refreshes your map every 15 seconds. You can still use the refresh button but if you do it to often you will receive a pop up message asking you no to refresh so often.

I see.. And besides the map, is the list of players and who's turn it is (and who's playing) also updated by itself every 15 seconds? Would the 'Begin Turn' button just show up when it's my turn?

Faster and smoother? This site had become slow for me, and I mean like snail-on-glue slow, then I disabled Ajax and suddenly I'm back to not having to wait 20 seconds between deploying my armies.

Probably something wrong. I disabled so I can use greasemonkey
