Unfair chat

I joined the L337 CONQUERORS TOURNAMENT and in my round 3 game, the other player (2 player game) says he cant play his turns.
Actual game chat: 2007-07-22 18:13:19 - bertp: you winn. I have to go on holiday. It was a shame that you did not join earlier than we could have plaid. good luck further

So obviously I assume I can just take lands end and slowly take him out right?

Well we takes a few turns AND gets someone to play his turns even after he said that he wouldn't be able to...doesn't seem fair to me.

Why did you play the game any differently thinking that he'd be gone?

Are you just mad that he actually came back and you didn't get an easy victory like he said?

sounds fine to me. Never bank on the fact that you believe they are leaving. Risk is a strategy game based on war. If a real life general faked a retreat to catch an enemy off guard, would the enemy cry foul? No because they would be dead. All is fair in love and war...especially war.

Actually looks like YOU were the one fcked by your own stupidity. There is no simple "end game" button to press and there is nothing in the rules stating that he can't get a substitute to take his turns for him so he doesn't deadbeat out of them. You have no one to blame, but yourself. Crying over that makes you look like a p*ssy.

exactly, just the other day in doubles, 1 player was down to 2 armies in 1 country, but it was his partner to play before me, i was sitting with a blue set poised to take out the weak player, problem was his partner was collecting 7 armies and had the opportunity to fort another 5. So i posted in open chat 'no, 2 green, 1 blue' his partner thinking i'd fucked up by not clicking team chat then only forted 4 to his partner. I cashed my set and eliminated him, then we won a game that we were getting well beat in.

good strategy i say.

I think it's poor sportsmanship to tell someone that you're not going to play anymore and then continue playing or have someone play for you. It's dishonest. It's quite another thing to try to fool people with your comments such as yorkie did. That was quite brilliant.

damn good idea...myself, i never would have fallen for it, but thats awesome

as far as the case on top, its very possible at the time the guy posted, he didnt have anyone to take his turns for him, then by the time he left he got someone at the last minute...it may very well have not been a ploy at all....but relying on something like that, and not playing worst case scenario is just not the way to play...

you have to assume the player is going to play, you have to assume they have a set, you have to assume a player will attack you when you dont think they will, you have to assume the worst, and not leave an opening, or the opening will be taken advantage of...almost every time

What I found even funnier is that the whiner had a "MISSED TURN" in there even while the sub was playing for the other guy.

Good for you, but when you miss a turn that eliminates all rights you have for biching over the matter as far as I'm concerned. Besides there is no "i quit" button in there so until lack reinstates one(he won't) you'll just have to actually find a way to actually eliminate someone instead of sending off for the "WAAAAHMBULANCE". Everyone for future reference if I say I have to leave and someone else wins, I reserve the right to come back and finish my game. Now I won't have to hear a crybaby whine if I ever do say I have to go and somehow find a way to get a sub or else to get online myself to play.

Nothing unfair about it. Unfair is in a freestyle game when the jerks keep you from taking a turn each day. Unfair is when someone makes an alliance against you even when you're not the strongest player on the board at that time. Unfair is getting stuck with an idiot teammate that deadbeats on purpose.

If anything, you should be glad that they at least let you know ahead of time just in case they hadn't been able to find a sub or been able to take their turn. Otherwise you would've been stuck waiting for the 24 hour period each day wondering what happened to them. Only reason someone would think thatt this is unfair after they lose is if all they care about was points instead of playing a good game.
