Favorite Territory

When you're playing a game of Risk (on any map), is there any single territory that you really hope to have or gain?

Is there a territory that is just really valuable to have for whatever reason?

What makes it so valuable?

I'm just wondering, as almost every territory is unique in its borders, location, etc. So there has to be one territory that's considerably "better" to have, right? Or wrong?

If you do have a favorite territory, please specify why.

China, in the classic map, cos it borders most of the asian countries.

Downtown in Montreal
The Throne in Siege
Quad in CCU
Pirate Cove in Age of Merchants. Overall Favorite, Arr Matey

For obvious reasons.

Pirate Cove is overpowered in my opinion ... don't really like that map at all though.

For Classic, the schoolboy answer of Siam takes a lot of beating – you're blocking Asia and holding Australia with it. North Africa is a good one too, it gives you a good sight at South America, obviously Africa, and Europe.

Well it always starts neutral and if you are playing adjacent or chained forts you are going to have some troop backlog after taking it most likely. The trade connections are really much more powerful then the pirate cove, it's better not to get it until you have something else solid going for you.

Anyway, overpowered = important. :D

Which reminds me, Alcatraz for San Francisco.

When I start, I like to have Argentina in Classic because for some reason, I can plan accordingly from there in gaining SA, then getting Africa and North America and stopping anyone from getting those areas.

If holding Australia; Middle East and Siberia.

I can project power over a very large expanse of the board from here. The same concept applied to other sources of unit income is just as good.

When I start on Classic I like to hold Siam, reason is obvious but overall my favourite is India its easy enough to defend and its good to attack into Asia or take the Middle East for an attack in to Europe or Africa
