War lover or strategist?

Postby radiojake on Tue Jul 17, 2007 7:46 am

Just a quick question

how many people on this site are here because they love the idea of war? How many are here because they simply like the idea of strategy and out witting people?

There seems to be a few people who love the war factor - let me know so i can put you on my ignore list.

HA!

I love the strategy aspect and competing with people who are good, tough opponents and who don't take these games and themselves too seriously.

I love chess and CC is like playing a variation of chess in some ways.

I've served in the military. War doesn't appeal to me in the least.

I like risk. Not sure why, but I don't think it is either of the things you said.

i like both factors hehehe

but im not much good at either, the fighting/conquering terrs aaspect of risk makes me want to play, but the strategy aspect of risk keeps me playing.

but we all know risk is 90% luck 10% skill , at least thats what i tell myself when and if i lose to a new recruit

Yeah, it's got to be the strategy. If I loved war, I'd buy Halo or some other 1st person shooter. But Risk is not only the strategy, it's often a good dose of psychology in the chat. You can't win all the time, but sometimes you can psyche out your opponents even when you don't deserve to win.

War's only good for one thing, and that's inspiring artists. Apart from that it's not good for anything.

Need I elaborate on why I play risk-like games on internet sites?

Strategist..

Postby Kinnison on Mon Jul 23, 2007 4:15 am

Long-time player of strategic games. PnP games, small (and not-so-small) piles of little cardboard counters, computer games, cards, figs...

Some of my favorites:
ANYTHING computerized... (turn-based, never liked RT strategy, too much clicking)
STARFIRE 3rd Ed or later
EMPIRE deluxe
CATAN Settlers, Starfarers, Seafarers, whatever...
ROBORALLY
EMPIRE BUILDER
AXIS and ALLIES (the original. spinoffs need not apply)

DIPLOMACY and SUPREMACY, although either can turn into a flamewar with unreasonable amounts of hurt feelings, depending on the players...

Strategy-hound here.... always loved chess and draughts when i was growing - loved Risk, too...

get pretty bored of the most of the so-called RTS on computers - they're not strategy, they're "outbuild and wipeout", and not particularly challenging...

that said - Civ and Total War are both kicka$$ series...

and loving all these on-line strategy games on the internet now - great to play against a brain rather than a set of algorithms :)

Draughts is a joke, first player can always win, it's been scientifically proven.

Granted that player would need to be a complete genius or a super computer, but still.

For me it's all about auto-attack. That button is the most fun thing in this entire game. Evar!!! One.

My main reason for playing is to pretend I'm a visionary leader who spreads socialism all over the world, defeating evil capitalists and fascist pigs on the way, and brings peace and harmony to the human race. Which is why I only play games that I start, as then I'm always red.

Strategy all the way, here! Chess, Risk, Axis and Allies, and (now) Conquer Club.

I am here because playing against the human players is so much more challenging that some computer program that you eventually figure out how to beat every time.

Strategic War

Postby NSparky93 on Thu Jul 26, 2007 9:34 pm

I don't particularly like the idea of a war, but I am a pretty good strategist. I like to outwit my opponents if I can't overpower them, and if I can overpower them, I do both.

Strategy and fun, of course. There is no winner in a war, everyone suffers and loses and dies.
