My unfavorable impressions of this site so far

Postby CirqueDaddy on Wed Jul 11, 2007 6:05 pm

I am not here to Bash or Troll. I would just like to state my experiences so this site can use them to improve its product.

I will just list my complaints.

I fail to recieve notifications via email for my turns fully half of the time.
I fail to Recieve emails when I am Eliminated from a game.
The default Earth Map is too bright and cluttered in my opinion.
The Controls for the placement of armies and attack is outdated.
I would prefer to click on my territories to place and attack.

Since I am very new to this site there is a strong possibility my major complaints are user error. If so please help me to rectify.

My complains about the gameplay and visuals come from my impressions on the free and paying sites on the internet that are in my opinion better products. I feel that this site has a very big user base and I would love to be able to put my skills against the many talented players that are denizens of this otherwise fine site.

1. Emails only tell you when your FIRST turn in each game is. not every turn.
2. Im don't think its supposed to email you when you are eliminated.
3. If the map is too bright, try another map that looks better for your preferences. or adjust the settings on your CPU monitor and decrease the brightness of the entire screen.
4. The controls are good.
5. I think clicking the territories is on the to-do list. check the list in the Sticky at the top of the suggestions/bug report forum.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think there should be email notifications of every turn. It would be helpful so as to not have to randomly check the site during busy workdays and busy Risking on this and other sites. :)

In the very few games I have played so far there has been players complaining about lack of play and seeming lack of interest by thier competetors.

Adding a feature such as this would go a long way to fixing those complaints

Hmmm I wonder what other "products" are on the internet, I only know dominategame.com and landgrab...

the last one is just sad and in dominategame there are less possibilities and the maps looks like they are made in paint...

As far as the other products I will not mention them because Im sure all of us Risk addicts know and play them. Free and Pay sites included.

I will also say that I am not here to advocate any other site. I do not have any interest in any other site except for entertainment. :)

I would love to see this site improve as i plan to play here as well once we get turn notifications.

I am too busy to randomly log in and check 5 sites a day.

I will check out the add-ons thanks!

*confused*.

I just looked through the games you are in and i saw no complaints about lack of play.

The problem with the people missing turns is that they are all new recruits (just joined the site, like you).

Many (well, it seems like most) new recruits register here, join a game or two, then leave. Then they miss turns.

Most of the players that have been here for a while take every turn which makes games go a lot faster.

If you would like to join a game where no one misses turns, just ask me. with my premium membership i can put a password on the game so only people I invite can join.

Then you could play a few games without getting slowed down by deadbeats.

If you want a game, just tell me!

Honestly, I like this site. I think you were polite, but your criticism are mostly unfair. I, too, was harsh at first because I didn't know the best way to avoid cheaters and deadbeats. Once you find a group of good people to play with, however, you'll have more fun.

I have to say, even at the free level, its fun and interesting to play. There is a great deal of player input with making new maps and such. I've met a lot of real nice people and it doesn't take too much time out of my day. The mods seem generally fair and professional--something that is VERY rare in internet games. Cheating really is taken seriously and justice is served when its discovered.

The one minor issue I have is the feedback system. It's too easy to abuse. People can make up whatever nonsense they feel like. Some have given me negatives because I beat them in a game. I got a negative because I gave a guy a neutral. He started harassing me to make me change it, then he gave me a negative. Even legitimate negatives most often result in retalitory feedback.

Yes, there is a system to address this, but its not all that rapid.

I learned too late that its best to give a positive feedback, or give nothing at all.

Overall, this is the best strategic gaming site I have ever played.

I too would have to say that this is one of the best sites i have discovered. The people here are really great and it seems that ur negative opinion about this site stems from bad experiences with newbies and not the real people and players behind this site. its true the buttons in the games could use a touch up but overall this site is rated extremely high on my list of top sites and theres always the live chat that u can go to. There are a lot of very colourful people there that will have u talking for hours on end. god knows, its my favourite thing about this site, and the flirting aint half bad either

Thanks for the critiques Cirque. As others have mentioned, there are plugins and addons available to tell you when it's your turn. RSS feed is also available. We're also working on a tutorial for new recruits to show them how the site works, so they'll be less likely to miss turns. Also, the pending Speed Games option will allow for quicker turns as well.

Take a few minutes to peruse our To-Do list, stickied at the top of the Suggestions Forum, for more exciting features to come. Try all the game and map options, and find what works best for your tastes. I'm sure you'll find we have the largest selection of maps available, most are "homemade" right here in our Foundry Forum.

First impressions can be misleading. Stay and play for awhile to experience all CC has to offer. Then come back and offer your critiques.

Twice a day is easily enough, if you log in more or less every 12 hours you'll never miss a turn. Of course, one gets into the habit of checking ones games at every opportunity...

This made me laugh, simply because of all the discussions and controversies that have been going on and are still going on.

Regarding AK and some things that went on in and with the Spamalot thread, that was quite a ruckus.
And not everyone likes the way the flame forum is being moderated, since it's a place for trashtalking, insulting, swearing at and pissing off others, why moderate it at all?

Retaliatory feedback isn't a valid feedback submission, so if you're concerned about any feedback you have, submit a feedback moderation request form under the FAQ/Contact tab and you'll generally have a Mod (usually AK_Iceman at the moment, I think) look at it and come to a decision quickly.

1/2. You might have to click on settings and turn on email contacting.
3. Turn your monitors brightness down, hasn't bother me.
4. I would say to use flash or something for it if the games were in real time but since they're based over like a week there's nothing wrong with the current system meaning you cane easily make moves e.t.c. if you have to from a pda, public computers... without having to worry about flash being installed.
5. Don't really see the harm in that but im guessing there'd be a lot of miss-clicks and also id prefer the current way as its easier to see exactly what you're going to do.

I've played at DominateGame.com and like it. It has it's quirks...just like ConquerClub has. Two different types of play....

Real time...
UI that lets you click the countries to deploy and attack and such

The biggest complaint that I see is that the games are too fast on DominateGame. Well that is based on the game you join. You can join a 30 second per turn game or a 5 minute per turn or whatever you want. It's your decission.

The second biggest complaint I've seen here on the forum is the maps. Well...the maps are made real time...you make it...in ONE sitting....then you use it. Here you make the map...go through an approval and discussion process and it finally gets approved and usable. Just different.

I like both...Here you can play fast...if your opponent is playing fast and it is almost real-time...or you can play slow....one day...one turn. ON DominateGame....it's fast paced...gets your heart racing pretty fast in a 30 second game....and your close to winning...LOL

Lastly...I really like ConquerClub...Gald I found it.

i think it would be really really annyoing for you to get an emaily for every turn that is yours and every time your eliminated from the game. it would just build up more email in your inbox!
all you have to do is check is once a day or so how ever you want!
why have them email you EVERY TIME it's your turn?
So if it's a quick game, where everyone is playing and moving quickly.
you'll get an email everytime it's your turn! so say a quick game lasts for 12 rounds, you get 12 stupid emailing saying it's your turn!!! That'd be F*cken annyoing!!
